The Le Havre skipper and his sponsor Apivia are launching the construction of a monohull for the next round-the-world trip.

Before the big start on Sunday of the Transat Jacques Vabre, a race in which he is the defending champion, Charlie Dalin lifted the veil on Tuesday on his future in Imoca.

Le Havrais, 2nd in the last Vendée Globe behind Yannick Bestaven, and its sponsor Apivia have decided to build a new monohull for the next solo round-the-world race scheduled for 2024.

“To be able to remain competitive and seek victory, it was important to rebuild a boat

, explains the 37-year-old sailor to Le Figaro.

There will be a dozen new monohulls on the next Vendée Globe.

They will inevitably be more efficient

Today at the helm of one of the most formidable and most reliable boats in the fleet, has he still considered keeping his current Verdier plan?

We worked on different scenarios, yes.

But the new boat solution quickly appeared to be the best.

Apivia 1 was designed in 2018. At the start of the Vendée Globe 2024, its design will therefore be six years old.

And in six years, a lot has happened ... Building is a way of remaining in control of our destiny.

Otherwise you are at the mercy of the design quality and the work of the other teams

. ”

Launched in 2023

According to the adage “we do not change a winning team”, Dalin and Apivia will collaborate once again with Guillaume Verdier to design this monohull which is scheduled to be launched in the spring of 2023. “

We have consulted others architects, but favoring continuity seemed completely logical to us. We had hit the nail on the head with the first boat given its performance. We will therefore continue to progress with Guillaume, drawing on our experience with Apivia 1, which has already done the equivalent of two round-the-world trips.

As for the previous one, the project will be hosted by Mer Concept, François Gabart's offshore racing team. Anxious not to reveal the details of his future mount, Charlie Dalin simply entrusts the floor on

On these boats with large foils, performance is dictated by the state of the sea. We are looking for solutions so that the performance is less affected by that

With high goals: “to

then the Route du rhum next year.

We still have a lot to do with this boat.

We are not at the end of the cycle.

The farewells are not for now

”.

Unsurprisingly, his future ex-boat, with which he crossed the finish line of the Vendée Globe first (Bestaven had been declared the winner after compensation), has already found a taker (or taker) for the next round the world trip.
