Gladiators wobble, but they don't fall

Important away success for the Erding Gladiators.

Geretsried / Erding - The Erding Gladiators had to do a hard piece of work on Sunday evening until the 6: 3 (3: 1, 1: 2, 2: 0) victory at ESC Geretsried was wrapped up.

In a weak middle third, coach Thomas Vogl's team almost gave up the game.

Except for the long-term injured Sebastian Schwarz and the still ailing Lars Bernhardt, the gladiators trainer was able to send his best line-up on the ice, including newcomer Roni Rukajärvi. And the Finn, who made a strong debut, also introduced the Erdinger tour. Although he was harassed by two Geretsriedern, he played a brilliant pass to Sebastian Busch. He put the puck back on Philipp Michl, and the gladiator's captain made it 1-0 (6th). Two minutes later it was even 2-0 when Daniel Krzizok duped ESC goalkeeper Max Freytag with a pawn trick.

The River Rats used an inattentiveness in Erdinger's defense in the 12th minute to make it 2-1 through Florian Strobl and almost equalized, but goalkeeper Christoph Schedlbauer was on the post. On the other hand, Erdinger had some opportunities to make it 3-1, which were awarded until Wassilij Guft-Sokolov took heart and scored (17th) - his first goal for Erding.

In the second section, the gladiators were no longer recognizable. You now looked nervous, inattentive and lost a lot of unnecessary discs. Geretsried took advantage of this, sometimes constricting the guests in their third for minutes, and after just under five minutes Klaus Berger brought the River Rats back into the game with a 2: 3. He was allowed to finish as free-standing and unrestricted as in the 35th minute Martin Köhler, who could choose the corner and scored to make it 3: 3.

How much the gladiators played was shown by an approximately 40-second 5-3 majority in the 27th minute, when a tentative shot from the blue line was the only result. Geretsried changed the goalkeeper after the 3: 3, Johanna May moved between the posts for Freytag. And she had to reach behind her after a good two minutes when Krzizok flicked the puck over her catcher hand to make it 4: 3.

This hit calmed the nerves of the gladiators, who were much more concentrated in the final third.

The River Rats tried everything, but Schedlbauer could no longer be overcome.

And when Marko Babic outnumbered them to 5: 3 (47th), the hosts' vigor was slowed down.

The gladiators now played the game home in a controlled manner.

When the River Rats then took their goalkeeper off the ice for a sixth outfield player, Michl put the finishing point 6: 3 into the empty goal (58th).
