The French national soccer player Aminata Diallo has been taken into custody in the context of an attack on a teammate.
The French club announced on Wednesday.
PSG, where German national player Sara Däbritz is under contract, did not name the victim.
The newspaper "L'Equipe" reported, however, that Diallo should have helped to physically injure her teammate Kheira Hamraoui.
Hamraoui was dragged from a car and attacked by two masked men on November 4th.
Accordingly, she is said to have gone home with Diallo after a club dinner last Thursday when strangers attacked her with an iron bar and hit her on the legs.
"Paris St. Germain can confirm that Aminata Diallo was taken into custody this morning by the Versailles Regional Police as part of the investigation into the attack on the club's players," said PSG on its website.
The case brings back memories of one of the most spectacular sports scandals: In 1994, the American figure skater Nancy Kerrigan was injured in the knee by an assassin with an iron bar.
The client was Jeff Gillooly, the husband of Kerrigan's fiercest rival Tonya Harding at the time.
It has not yet been clarified whether Diallo was behind the attack on Hamraoui.
There is no charge.
"Paris St. Germain condemns the violence in the strongest terms," said the club, who added that the alleged attack took place a week ago.
“Paris Saint-Germain is working with the Versailles police to investigate the matter.
The club is closely following the progress of the investigation and will examine what action needs to be taken. "
Hamraoui missed the Champions League group game against Real Madrid (4-0) on Tuesday evening - according to Paris "for personal reasons".
Diallo, on the other hand, was in the starting line-up like Däbritz.
