- They have already celebrated many successes together - but this title was still missing: Julia Paszkiewicz (25) from Freising and her partner Johannes Tourbeslis (27) from Niederroth won the Ju-Jutsu World Championship in Abu Dhabi Won in the Duo Senior Mixed category.

However, the two will not rest long on their success: The focus is now on the World Games 2022.

After a year of forced break due to corona, the Ju-Jutsu World Cup in the disciplines of Fighting, Duo and Newaza will take place in Abu Dhabi until Thursday.

Around 1,400 athletes from 62 countries will be taking part - never before have there been so many.

Including the two athletes from SV Niederroth: Julia Paszkiewicz and Johannes Tourbeslis have been training the duo competition for eleven years.

You have been a member of the national team of the German Ju-Jutsu Association (DJJV) for years and can boast a number of successes: silver at the World Games 2017, gold at the Paris Open and German Open, the vice world championship title in the U21s and several DM victories .

However, they still lacked World Cup gold.

Strong performance in difficult times

Despite the pandemic restrictions, Julia Paszkiewicz and Johannes Tourbeslis trained purposefully, hard and with great commitment to make their dream come true.

They attended several state and federal management courses last year, and since the end of 2019 they have participated in two international eDuo competitions (two times first place), the German (first place) and the European Championship (third place) as well as in countless training competitions.

Her training schedule in the end phase was more than 20 hours a week.

The whole thing was additionally supported by measures in the area of ​​mental coaching.

With a big lead on the world title

On November 4th Julia Paszkiewicz and Johannes Tourbeslis had their big competition day at the World Cup in Abu Dhabi.

A total of 13 duos from Germany, Belgium, Italy, Morocco, Montenegro, Pakistan, Romania, Switzerland and Thailand were on the mat.

After the draw, the so-called double pool knockout system was fought.

Julia and Johannes first prevailed against Pakistan and Montenegro and then in the semifinals against the Swiss and advanced confidently into the final.

The strong team from Thailand, which had previously put the reigning world champion Belgium in their place in its semifinals, was waiting there.

In the final, Julia and Johannes convinced the referees from the first series: They called up a performance that had not yet been shown and thus secured their first world championship title with a margin of 2.5 points.

The joy of this amazing success was huge - among the athletes, the national coach, the entire German team in Abu Dhabi, the many spectators at home who followed the competitions via live stream, and Julia's father and club coach Adam Paszkiewicz.

One or two tears of joy flowed.

Full commitment for the next highlight

With this success, Julia Paszkiewicz and Johannes Tourbeslis should have secured participation in the 2022 World Games in Birmingham (USA), subject to the official announcement by the Ju-Jitsu International Federation.

The World Games are like the Olympic Games for non-Olympic sports.

This would be another dream come true for the two, who have worked tirelessly on themselves since their recent start at the World Games in 2017 and despite one or the other setback.

Julia and Johannes will now enjoy their world title, recover from the exertion and then start preparing for the World Games from December onwards.

The first federal management course for this highlight begins at the beginning of January.
