The previous Vice President Andreas Silbersack has announced his retirement from the leadership of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).
The Silbersack responsible for popular sport and sport development justified the step on Thursday with its double burden.
Since September, Silbersack has also been chairman of the FDP parliamentary group in Saxony-Anhalt.
»Both activities are highly political and require a high level of commitment.
In addition to my other voluntary functions in sport, I am currently unable to fulfill both tasks to the required extent, "he explained to the 53-year-old.
He will therefore not stand for the new election of the DOSB Presidium on December 4th in Weimar.
DOSB boss Alfons Hörmann and Vice President Kaweh Niroomand, who is responsible for finance, had previously announced that they would not stand for election.
The vortex at the DOSB was triggered by an anonymous letter from the group of employees in which the association management and above all Hörmann were accused of having a "culture of fear" at the DOSB headquarters.
A selection committee recommended the former world-class fencer Claudia Bokel, the CSU politician Stephan Mayer and the outgoing table tennis world president Thomas Weikert as candidates for the presidency.
After his retirement, Silbersack wants to remain first Vice President of Special Olympics Germany.
He is also Honorary President of the State Sports Association of Saxony-Anhalt, which he headed from 2008 to 2019.
