The Syrian national football team tied with its Iraqi counterpart 1-1 in the match that brought them together today in the Qatari capital, Doha, in the fifth round of the final qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup.
The beginning of the match witnessed offensive pressure, as our goalkeeper Khaled Al-Hajji Othman managed to tackle a ball that was almost a goal in the 12th minute.
The same attacking pressure imposed itself in the second half, and in the 80th minute, our team opened the scoring through Omar Al-Soma with a powerful shot after a perfect pass he received from Omar Khribin. Only four minutes passed until the Iraqi team equalized through Amir Al-Ammari from a penalty kick, ending the match with a 1-1 draw.
Our team remained in the last place and its score became two points in the first group, which is led by the Iranian team with 13 points, followed by the South Korea team with 11 points, then the Lebanon team with 5 points, the Iraqi team with 4 points, then the UAE with 3 points.
