Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas won the São Paulo sprint race.
São Paulo - After a lightning start in Formula 1, the Finn secured three points for victory in front of World Cup leader Max Verstappen in the Red Bull.
Bottas will start from first place in the Grand Prix on Sunday (6 p.m. / Sky).
In second place in the new format, Verstappen extended his World Championship lead to 21 points ahead of Lewis Hamilton.
Carlos Sainz came third in a Ferrari.
After starting from first place in the qualification, Hamilton was transferred all the way to the back because of an irregular rear wing.
With fifth place, the Mercedes driver operated strong damage limitation.
Due to an engine penalty, Hamilton only starts the fourth from last race of the season from position ten.
Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel finished tenth on Saturday.
Mick Schumacher in the Haas had to be content with position 19.
