At the time of the Paris-Vincennes winter meeting, Adrien Lamy takes stock of his career and talks about his atypical career, he who counts t

The 29-year-old pilot from Brittany was not destined to become a jockey.

Trained by Bruno Marie, Adrien Lamy started his career late, at the age of 18, but managed to find a place among the elite with five Groups I, 678 victories in France and two Bronze Stirrups to his name. .

As the Paris-Vincennes winter meeting has just started, he talks about his career, his evolution in the equestrian world, the major upcoming events and even aspects of his personality.

"It was not especially my dream"

“I had the click when I arrived at Bruno Marie when I was 18 years old.

I then took a liking to competition.

I owe him everything.

Before that, I did odd seasonal jobs while having an ES bac in my pocket.

I picked up chickens, I was a waiter or even a tiler before arriving in this environment.

It was not especially my dream to become a pilot like many people in this profession.

I had the chance to meet the right people at the right time.

Today, I am passionate about what I do.

"

"I hope my image has changed"

“When I began to have great success, I had the label of the guy who came from nowhere and who had broken through at Bruno Marie.

There were pros and cons.

Today, I hope that my image has changed otherwise it would mean that I could not progress any further.

I want to be seen as someone who has talent and who wants to win races.

"

"You have to fight to keep your place"

“My career took a different turn after I left Bruno Marie in 2016. It was the right time.

I tried to get started with an agent, Franck Pinchinat, the competition from freelance jockeys was less dense at that time.

Either it passed, or it broke ... Now you have to fight to keep your place.

It is also for this reason that I favor quality a little more than quantity, while retaining certain customers.

"

"I still have to pass a course"

“I'm 67 wins this year.

It may sound disappointing on paper as I have made over 100 winners for years.

However, I traveled less around the province and performed better in the Paris region.

Thanks to that, I still think I will reach 2 million euros in earnings at the end of the year.

I work a lot with Tomas Malmqvist, with whom relations are excellent, and Franck Leblanc, who trusts me during the winter meeting.

Obviously, the quality of their horses allows me to be more present in Paris.

This strategy must make me evolve.

I am at a stage in my career where I should not stagnate.

I am proud of what I have achieved since my beginnings but I still have to pass a milestone.

"I'm running to win the Cornulier"

Étoile de Bruyère

will be prepared for the Prix de Cornulier

(Sunday 23 January 2022)

.

She is strong for these events because she is easy to ride.

I have complete confidence in his trainer, Charles Dreux, to bring him to the top on D-Day. It is an additional motivation for the meeting.

This year, I'm running to win the Cornulier.

"

"To miss THE race is complicated to admit"

“When I participate in a big race, I wake up in the morning thinking about it already.

I am different these days.

It's my way of being and I don't think I missed much on big dates.

I could not really explain it but I always answered present.

It may be a force.

You can lose a race but to miss THE race is difficult to admit… On a daily basis, I am also well surrounded.

My father always helped me and gave me advice.

He also called me to order when needed.

I have a habit of always going too fast, of wanting to finish before I start.

I don't have to take my time anymore.

My partner, Clémence, also helps me a lot thanks to her external vision of the job and a general aspect of my personality.

"

“Running for Jean-Michel Bazire?

A dream "

“I admire Jean-Michel Bazire so much!

He is a model to follow because he is above everyone else on all points.

More talented, more hardworking… It's just beautiful.

Running for him?

It would be a dream but I don't think it will happen because he has his appointed jockeys.

I also watch Eric Raffin and his behavior a lot.

I learned a lot by being by his side in the Vincennes locker room, especially in terms of relationships.
