With eight consecutive losses, the Pelicans did not have too high hopes before the meeting against one of the strongest teams in the league. But quite surprisingly, with less than five minutes left, the scoreboard showed 101: 104 in favor of New Orleans, which still lacked Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. But then, at just the right moment, the Brooklyn star duo ascended; James Harden scored a crucial three less than 30 seconds to go that finally closed the story after Kevin Durant scored five quick points to regain the lead for his team, in a game in which they already led by 21 points.
Harden, who in recent games has concentrated mostly on dedication, tonight shelled out 39 points on 11 of 18 from the field and also added 12 assists versus six turnovers. Durant finished with 28, eight assists and seven rebounds and Joe Harris contributed 24 including 6 of 8 off the arc. On the other hand, all of New Orleans' top five players scored in double digits, with the list of goals being led by Jonas Valencia with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

There was great concern in the Celtics about the absence of the injured Jaylen Brown before the game against the champion who lacked Yannis Antecompo.
