Summary: Italy - Switzerland 1: 1 (Sports 1)
Italy continues to suffer from bad luck and character in the World Cup qualifying campaign.
Last night (Friday) the European champions ended in a disappointing 1-1 draw with Switzerland at the Olimpico, in what was a direct battle for the presidency of the Third House.
After the draw, the regional ticket to the World Cup looks in real danger, and in order to get there they may have to make it to the playoffs.
Last night's tragic hero was Giorgini, who missed a crucial penalty in the 90th minute that could have completed a makeover for Italy.
The Chelsea midfielder was not considered the team's regular penalty taker, but asked Roberto Mancini to kick this time, and the coach responded.
It ended in disappointment, but with full backing from the coach.
"He felt he wanted to take that kick, and it's good he did. He was right when he decided to kick. He's one of the best penalty takers on the team, and it happens that you fail. It's most important to take responsibility, and that's what he did."

Mancini admits that Italy's situation in the table is "worrying and causes concern", but on the other hand he was encouraged by the character his players displayed when they were not pressured by the backlog they were caught in.
"It was a very difficult game. Too bad we couldn't complete a makeover, because we deserved it."

Giovanni di Lorenzo, who scored the only goal for Italy, also supported Giorgini at the end.
"He's a true champion, with a winner's heart, and he's our best penalty taker. We'll help him overcome that difficult moment," the Napoli player said when asked about the situation of Giorgini who according to the Italian media "looks completely broken" at the end.
