Despite Corona: mode in the Bayernliga remains unchanged

In times of Corona, flexibility is required more than ever. In that regard, TSV Peißenberg and EA Schongau are setting a good example.

In times of Corona, flexibility is required more than ever.

In that regard, TSV Peißenberg and EA Schongau are setting a good example.

Peißenberg

- flexibility is the order of the day.

This can be heard again and again in pandemic times, and the clubs in the Bavarian Ice Hockey League have taken it to heart.

The Peißenberg “Miners” started by directing the Schweinfurt “Mighty Dogs” to the Ammer for the corona-related pause team from Kempten.

EA Schongau proceeded in the same way and preferred the game at TEV Miesbach after the original opponent, EHC Klostersee, had also had to take a break.

Ice hockey: The main round in the Bayern League should be played in full

All Bayern league clubs support this approach, as became clear at an online league conference on Monday evening. "Our goal is to hold all the main round matches as far as possible," reported "Miners" boss Lisa Steidl about the roughly two-hour exchange of views in which all 15 clubs took part. "That was a good meeting," said Martin Resch, the sports director of the EAS.

The committee of association representatives refrained from changing the mode or canceling the intermediate round, as was speculated in the run-up to the conference.

If not all games can be played, the table position is determined using a quotient rule, as happened last season in the major league.

"There is also no reason to deviate from it," explained Resch.

The club representatives will meet again before the end of the main round to discuss the next steps and the current situation.

Ice hockey: As far as the corona rules are concerned, the Schongauers choose a strict line

"The association has also once again expressly pointed out that the requirements must be adhered to," said Resch, referring to the entrance controls due to the 2G rule (vaccinated or recovered) for the spectators. "We are very strict there and prefer to go one step further," explained the EAS team manager, why FFP2 masks are also mandatory for visitors in the Schongauer Halle, unlike in some other stadiums. “We have come through well so far, although a bit of luck is also part of it,” says Resch. The "Mammoths" have not yet had a Corona case and were able to play all 14 games.

The Peissenbergers, on the other hand, did not get off so lightly, although the worst seems to be over.

After up to 40 players, mainly from the youth teams, had been caught by the virus, almost all of them have now recovered or have tested themselves.

“All the youth teams were in action last weekend,” reported Steidl.

Ice hockey: So far, only one player at Peißenberg has been infected with Corona

The TSV men's team has so far had one player who was infected with Corona, but is now considered to have recovered.

"But he will only go back on the ice when the doctor gives the green light," says Steidl, making it clear that a medical check is necessary before the actor concerned is allowed to practice competitive sport again.

“We don't want to take any chances,” says the “Miners” boss.

The other Bayern league teams are proceeding in a similar way, based on the DEB “Back to Hockey” concept, which was already practiced in the major league last season.

Ice hockey: should only players who meet the 2G rule be used?

However, there is no uniform approach to the question of whether the clubs will only play with players who meet the 2G rule.

"Some refer to 3G in the workplace," says Steidl.

The unvaccinated players, who have to be employees of the club, should now be checked twice a week using a PCR test in order to minimize the risk.

"A hall operator can still stipulate that only players who comply with 2G are allowed to enter the stadium," says Steidl, who sees potential for conflict in this regard.

Last week, three actors who had not been vaccinated were not allowed to play in the “Mammoths”.

For the Peißenberger, however, this requirement is not a problem, since according to the club, all players in the men's team have been vaccinated or have recovered.
