The Paris Olympics may begin in part on the Ile d'Oléron, in Charente-Maritime.
In Saint-Pierre-d'Oléron, the Oumière sports complex is one of the 619 French sites officially authorized to host Olympic teams.
Athletes from all over the world will be able to settle there to prepare for their events in six disciplines: BMX, judo and badminton, handball, taekwondo and para-taekwondo.
"We are the only municipality in the department to have been selected with so many disciplines", welcomes Christophe Sueur, the mayor of Saint-Pierre-d'Oléron, who intends to use the 2024 Olympics to place Oléron in the international sporting landscape. .

Labeled "Land of Games 2024", this village of nearly 7,000 inhabitants has relied heavily on its sports facilities, notably by building a combat dojo and a competitive BMX track.
This is because the town already has more than 3,000 licensees in its sports associations, 850 of which are under 18 years old.
The coach of the French handball champions offers his experience
To make itself known on the international scene and attract foreign delegations, Oléron has just launched a vast communication campaign around several videos and a website showing its strengths.
“We have also recruited a communications officer.
She speaks four foreign languages.
We have sports facilities but also accommodation and an exceptional setting to meet the expectations of athletes, ”assures the elected official.
To stand out against other French preparation sites, the Oléronais also rely on Sylvain Nouet, the former assistant coach of the French handball team between 2001 and 2014. This master at playing won with his players in particular. the Olympic Games twice, the European Championship three times and the World Championships twice.
Sylvain Nouet has agreed to put his passion and his address book at the service of the island.
“It's a magical place, I decided to retire there, it was logical and natural to offer my skills,” he explains.
I have a network which exceeds the hand, I will activate all that.
" His goal ?
Quickly attract clubs to publicize the facilities of Saint-Pierre-d'Oléron: "When their players then enter their national teams, they talk about us," he smiles.
In Charente-Maritime, only two other municipalities appear in the catalog of preparation centers validated by the Paris 2024 organization: that of Fouras for table tennis and La Rochelle for rugby sevens.
