The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) announced the suspension of the referee who officiated the match between Argentina and Brazil in the World Cup qualifiers last Tuesday, and the referee responsible for the video system, because they committed serious errors during the match that ended in a goalless draw.
The Federation said in a statement on its official website: “After a technical analysis of the behavior of the referee of the arena Andres Ismail Kona Soca Vargas and the referee of the video system Esteban Daniel Vega, it was proven that they committed serious and clear mistakes,” noting that the referee of the arena and the referee of the video system were suspended indefinitely.
Argentine defender Nicolas Otamendi made a clear mistake against Brazilian winger Rafinha, which the referees did not pay attention to, although he caused a wound in the latter's mouth.
