"I, when I was young, was generally full of joy of life, but I wanted to be like you, and I learned from you to be cool and not smile," laughs Oded Katash in a couple interview with Walla!

Sports, together with his partner in the Ketchup duo.

"An ice man like me had pros, and cons, and I had a tendency to take the game a little too seriously," Doron Sheffer replies. "Basketball is just a game."

Katsch: "Doron was like my big brother, even before we knew each other. I followed him to the Upper Galilee, and I wanted to go to college. You do not understand how many specific shots, and in the movements with the ball between my legs, I imitated him. .

Improve: "You were a dancer, and you just danced the game."

Oded Katash and Doron Sheffer. Doron Sheffer and Oded Katash. Many of the immortal duos in the basketball world are remembered for the blind coordination between them, and more than that - thanks to the titles they have won together. But this duo was different. "We did not play much together," Katsch tries to recall. "Two and a half years in total," Sheffer adds, "but this story continues to this day."

Last night (Wednesday), when more than 10,000 spectators in Yad Eliyahu cheered for two, and watched the jerseys with the numbers 10 and 11 rise to the ceiling of the hall, it was hard not to shudder and cuddle up to the memories from time to time; To the days when the two Israeli basketball players were the real stars of Maccabi Tel Aviv, and demonstrated dominance and leadership that has not been remembered since; An entire generation of fans may not have seen them swing the European Cup in yellow, or bring the Israeli team to an unprecedented achievement - but many fell in love with the game thanks to them.

"We have not been able to bring results in Europe, in relation to Maccabi's standard," admits Sheffer.

Katsch: "These were parked years, but we kept the fire going ... we did not reach the Final Four or extraordinary achievements, and there were much richer teams than us, but after each game 2,000 or 3,000 fans waited outside the hall. Getting to the car was an impossible task "It shows the connection that was here, and proves that victory does not sanctify everything. That's how you taught me, right?"

Improve: "Exactly."

"If I did something for Oded, then I won."

- Do you remember what was the actor's song that each of you received from the stands?

"Oded was the king of Israel," Sheffer immediately pulls out, and while Katsch tries to recall a song dedicated to his friend, the Iceman is quick to explain: "I was in Rabbah [there is no one like you in the world, everyone loves you]. This one with the words "Rabbi Nachman, there is no one like you in the world." It was familiar to me from the beginning, until I remembered where. "

Katsch: "Take me with you once to the artist."

Sheffer joined Katsh at Maccabi in the summer of 1996, but his friend left in 1999 and since then they have not played together again. In their last appearance at the top European event, in the Final Four of Thessaloniki in 2000, they met as rivals - and the fateful three-pointer that Katsch scored in favor of Panathinaikos, he threw over the hands of his good friend. "Intuitively I felt I was alone, but he almost blocked me," he recalled.

Sheffer: "If I did something for Oded, then I won. I went under the block,Although you have to go over "...

- Eight years later, your paths met again, but in a completely different situation - when Oded coached Doron in the Galilee.

Katsch: "It was the weirdest. He was my big brother and suddenly I found myself coaching him. But in his sensitivity he made it easy."

Sheffer: "I even forgot about it for a moment ... I had a lot of pairings during my career, and here something caught on. We had no control over it, and we're very happy about it."

- And now, when you experienced the atmosphere again in the Euroleague game at Yad Eliyahu, and from the stands came again songs "Oded Melech Yisrael" and "Doron Sheffer, there is no one like you in the world", did not you miss the game?

"No no, we have already passed the longing stage," Katsch replies, and Sheffer volunteers for the well: "When we miss basketball, we just go out to play in the neighborhood."
