The incident in which the footballer is charged occurred in July 2020, when Fromm stabbed his cousin during a family party and left him with serious injuries.

The issue made headlines only five months later, when an Ajax player was arrested and spent two nights in custody.

Throughout the period, Fromm denied the allegations, with his lawyer also claiming that his client was not present at the scene at the time of the incident.

In the Netherlands, comparisons have been made to other stabbing cases that have occurred in the past in the country to estimate the severity of the punishment that may be imposed on the actor, and according to past precedents, Fromm may be sentenced to 24 to 42 months in prison.

Fromes, who played for Ajax at the time of his arrest, managed to return last February for a second term on the team from the Russian capital, where he also spent between 2014 and 2018.

The 29-year-old made 50 appearances for the Netherlands national team, during which he scored seven goals, the last time he played in the orange uniform was in the last 16 of the Euro, so his team lost 2: 0 to the Czech Republic and was eliminated.

Louis van Gaal, who replaced Frank de Boer as national coach after the painful dismissal, explained last month why he did not invite Fromm to the squad: "When a player is involved in such a case, it is much harder for him to stay focused on football."
