Olympic champion Alexander Zverev has moved into the semifinals of the season finale of the best tennis professionals of the year for the third time after 2018 and 2019.
The 24-year-old from Hamburg prevailed 6: 2, 6: 4 against the Polish ninth place in the world ranking list Hubert Hurkacz in Turin on Thursday, securing second place behind Daniil Medwedew in his red preliminary group.
“Of course I'm very happy to be here in Turin for the first time in the semi-finals.

Djoković is waiting again
Previously, Zverev had benefited from the resignation of the Italian Matteo Berrettini before Medvedev won the contested second group game in the tiebreaker.
In the semifinals on Saturday, the best German tennis player will now challenge the Serbian world number one Novak Djoković, whom Zverev surprisingly defeated both in the 2018 final and on his way to Olympic gold in Tokyo in the semifinals.
At the US Open, however, Djoković had the better end for himself, the 34-year-old is also a top favorite at the finals and is already clear as the winner of the green group before his last match.
The season showdown, endowed with more than seven million US dollars in prize money, is one of the most important tennis tournaments behind the Grand Slam tournaments.
