The Premier League has extended its TV contract with the US broadcaster NBC.

According to consistent media reports, England's top football league has increased its revenues by more than 170 percent.

According to the US news agency AP and the New York Times, the league will receive more than 2.7 billion US dollars (around 2.4 billion euros) for the six-year contract.

The previous six-year contract was therefore worth a billion US dollars.

NBC announced the deal with the Premier League on Thursday (local time), but did not provide any information on the financial framework.

The new contract runs through the 2027/2028 season and includes all 380 games of each season.

NBC has been broadcasting the Premier League matches since 2013; the network had paid 1.1 billion dollars (approx. 970 million euros) for the last deal.

Spain and Germany far behind

The new agreement dwarfs all previous TV contracts with foreign soccer leagues in the USA.

In May, ESPN paid $ 1.4 billion for the rights to the Spanish league, or around 175 million per season over eight years.

The Premier League deal, on the other hand, brings about $ 450 million per season.

The Bundesliga has been broadcast in the USA on ESPN + since the 2020/21 season.

The contract between the German Football League (DFL) and the US broadcaster belonging to the Walt Disney Company runs for six seasons.

According to information from Sponsors.de, ESPN pays around 35 million euros per season for the broadcasting rights.
