German coach quits after rumors of fake vaccination certificate being used

Markus Anfang has finally decided to throw in the towel.

Werder Bremen, quadruple German champion (last title in 2004) and winner of the Cup Winners' Cup in 1992, announced on Saturday the departure of their 47-year-old German coach who arrived this season from Darmstadt after the relegation of Werder last May.

The technician resigned after the opening Thursday of an investigation by the German authorities following rumors that he had used a false certificate of vaccination against Covid-19.

In a statement, Markus Anfang announced his departure: “Due to the extremely stressful situation for the club, the team, my family and myself, I have decided to end my position as head coach of the Werder Bremen with immediate effect ”.

The coach had however denied the facts twenty-four hours earlier at a press conference.

“Like any other citizen with a double shot, I received my two vaccines at an official vaccination center and I received the stickers to put on my yellow vaccination passport.

I then scanned it in a pharmacy and obviously assumed everything was in order.

I really hope this problem will be resolved soon.

In Germany, the vaccination of players and club staff has been a problem for many months because no measure requires them to be vaccinated.

Bayern Munich international midfielder Joshua Kimmich is the most notorious player to have refused the inoculation so far for fear of side effects.

Only 8th in Bundesliga 2, Werder Bremen, who host this Saturday evening on Matchday 14 Schalke 04, another great German club relegated last season, will have to recover from this situation.

Markus Anfang is temporarily replaced on the sidelines by Danjiel Zenkovic.
