Manchester United fires Solskjaer and dreams of Zidane

2021-11-21T11:51:59.284Z

In the hot seat for several weeks, the Norwegian coach of Manchester United did not survive the defeat on Saturday at Watford (4-1).

Humiliation too much for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

After the defeat on Saturday at Watford (4-1), 17th in the Premier League at kick-off, the Manchester United Board met for five hours.

As of Saturday evening, several media evoked the imminent departure of the Norwegian coach, former glory of the club in his role of “Supersub”, on the bench since December 2018 and under contract until 2024.

Manchester United formalized the separation this Sunday morning in a statement.

An outcome that was becoming inevitable.

Even though Solskjaer had been supported by his leadership, his position was untenable.

For several weeks, Cristiano Ronaldo's teammates have accumulated slaps: slapped in Leicester (4-2), humiliated by Liverpool at Old Trafford (0-5), overtaken in the derby against City (0-2).

Manchester United is only 7th in the Premier League, 12 points behind leaders Chelsea after 12 days and remains on four defeats in the last 5 league games (4 points taken in 7 games).

The succession of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is therefore open.

In the meantime, it is his assistant Michael Carrick who will take over the interim.

Laurent Blanc also mentioned

On Saturday, the Times reported that Zinedine Zidane was the number one priority for the Glazer family, owners of Manchester United.

The former coach of Real Madrid would find Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphaël Varane in England.

But he will have to be convinced to take up a new challenge when he had announced that he wanted to take the time to breathe.

Laurent Blanc, the former coach of PSG, former Manchester United player who found a bench in Qatar at Al-Rayyan, would also have been surveyed.

But this Sunday morning, the Manchester Evening News evokes three tracks, a little less prestigious to replace Solskjaer: Erik ten Hag (Ajax), Luis Enrique (coach of Spain) and Brendan Rodgers (Leicester).
