Thanks to a penalty in stoppage time, SV Werder Bremen played 1: 1 against Schalke 04.

The game report of the DeichStube * for the first match after the resignation of coach Markus Anfang.

Bremen - First the coach quake, then a free penalty that

saved

Werder Bremen

at least one point

in the second division hit against

Schalke 04

. Niclas Füllkrug converted a penalty in the ninth minute of stoppage time, which probably not even the Bremen team knew why they were awarded it, and thus set the end of a memorable day in every respect. Previously, Simon Terodde had put Schalke in the lead with a defeat after 82 minutes. This made him the sole record scorer in the 2nd division. 154 hits are now on his account. Werder remained unbeaten for the fourth time in a row, and Schalke managed to win their first point after three competitive games in a row.

Before the kick-off, of course, all of the 42,100 spectators in the sold-out Wohninvest Weserstadion wondered how the Bremen team would cope with the turbulence surrounding the sudden and unexpected change of coach.

The team was only informed by management on Saturday morning that head coach

Markus Anfang

and his assistant Florian Junge had submitted their resignation due to inconsistencies in their vaccination cards and the associated investigations by the public prosecutor.

So while sweating in the morning, the interim

solutions Danijel Zenkovic

, previously assistant coach number two, and ex-professional Christian Brand, up to now U19 coach, took command.

Werder Bremen against Schalke 04: Danijel Zenkovic with verve in the first head coach game

The team received the news of the initial resignation "very calmly", reported sports director Frank Baumann - certainly also because after Friday everyone had suspected what was coming. Baumann: "Many in the team were aware that if there was something to the massive allegations, the coach couldn't go on."

Danijel Zenkovic approached the unexpected promotion at

Werder Bremen

with verve and a positive attitude. “Great game, great stadium - what more do you want? Our motto has to be: You have to keep calm in chaos, ”he explained. At first it was a bit too quiet on the Bremen side. In the duel between the relegated Bundesliga players, the home side owned the first minutes, but then the team threw itself out of step with mistakes. Ömer Toprak, who celebrated his starting line-up comeback after injury and was one of four newcomers to the starting line-up (plus Leo Bittencourt, Christian Groß and Felix Agu), hit Marius Bülter (7th) in dire need and at full risk, then flew a lift by Simon Terodde (11th) just missed the far post.

Werder Bremen against Schalke 04: Ömer Toprak defends strongly against Simon Terodde

In these two actions,

Schalke 04

could have given

the game a positive direction for them early on.

Afterwards, Werder found their way back into the game better, using the tactics that had been successful in the 2-1 win in Nuremberg: long passes forward and always on the second balls.

But that did not lead to anything for a long time.

In the 32nd minute, the fans had the scream on their lips: Victor Palsson cleared an attempt by

Niclas Füllkrug

just before the line

.

It remained the best goal scene of the first half, which otherwise only had to offer fouls as an upset. And Zenkovic? The Austrian stayed true to his motto as far as possible and followed the events unmoved from the coaching bench. He rarely got up and was out and about in the coaching zone. But what suited the game. The duel, which sounds so much like the first division, was tough on the second division level. It was intense, but nobody was torn from their seats in the first 45 minutes.

But then all of a sudden: Counter and counter counter, the full load of life.

First Agu drove the ball forward, but then screwed up the decisive pass and invited

Schalke 04

to attack (51st).

It was only

thanks to

the renewed full commitment of

Ömer Toprak

, the outstanding man in the Bremen team, that Terodde did not score his record goal earlier.

Werder Bremen versus Schalke 04: Niclas Füllkrug countered Simon Terodde's goal with a penalty

Overall, however:

Werder Bremen

invested more, had 57 percent possession after an hour of play - and with Füllkrug another great chance. Well served by Schmid, he shot clearly over it with his left and supine position. Shortly afterwards, Ducksch missed the goal with a header. There was no question of uncertainty at Werder because of the turbulence of the coaches. It was the picture of the past games that Werder showed: Willing and commitment were there, but in front of the goal either the ideas, the consistency or the ability were missing. A Ducksch free kick also hissed past the goal (71.).

In the closing minutes it got dramatic.

First, Terodde met after Werder goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka had blocked a long-range shot in the middle.

When the game seemed already decided, was referee Tobias Stieler after an alleged foul on substitute

Roger Assale

and the

video evidence

a

lucky penalty

for

Werder Bremen

- turned Niclas Füllkrug.

UPDATE LIVE TICKER

>>>

10:33 p.m.:

The ticker says goodbye at this point.

There will be more about the game in the next hours and days online and in the well-known print products.

We read each other in the same place next Saturday at the same time when the Bremer compete in the north duel in Kiel.

Stay sporty and healthy!

10:29 p.m.:

And the game is over!

That was the last action of the game!

Füllkrug is unimpressed by the third to the penalty kick, yes also by the third to his former coach and loads Fraisl.

The Weserstadion is freaking out, this hit is worth a point!

A taste remains, because the foul that led to the penalty is, in our opinion, not one.

But the bottom line was that a defeat would not have been fair either, as Werder had too much of the reins in their own hands for that.

90 + 9: TOOOOOOOOOR for Werder!

Filling jug hits!

There is the late compensation !!!!!!

90 + 8:

Grammozis gets the yellow card because he complains.

90 + 7: PENALTIES FOR WERDER!

We didn't expect that, but that's how it is, and that's how it's good!

90. + 6:

Stieler looks at the scene on the screen again!

90 + 4 min:

A long ball slips on the far post on Assalé, but it falls.

The east curve must have seen a foul, we have our doubts, as Assalé will probably take the ball with his hand.

90 + 3 min:

Schalke cleverly brings it out second by second and keeps the ball away from its own goal.

You have to give that to the guests.

90 + 1 min:

Pieringer sees a yellow card for a foul.

Tobias Stieler indicates: Four minutes will be played.

Not much time, but maybe it will be enough ...

90.Min

:

Füllkrug heads on goal from 14 meters, but no problem for Fraisl, who loosely picks up the ball and takes plenty of time to get it back into play.

88.Min

:

Both teams change: Assalé and Weiser, Agu and Mbom leave the field.

At the same time, Aydin leaves Schalke, Matriciani comes.

86.Min:

Werder presses, but the ideas and the deals are missing.

85.Min:

That wasn't exactly suggested, but now it has happened.

Werder doesn't have much time left to at least equalize here.

82nd Min: That's when it happened!

Zalazar has space and shoots from 25 meters.

Pavlenka is surprised and can only clap the ball forward - exactly where the lurking Terodde is standing and welding the ball under the crossbar with a diving header.

Werder - Schalke 0: 1, and Terodde has the goal record.

79.Min:

Now it's over for Bittencourt as well.

He leaves the place and claps each other with Dinkci, who replaces him.

78th Min:

Free kick Schalke from the half field on the far post, Thiaw climbs higher than everyone else and heads from him from the far corner, but just over.

Kaminski had lurked.

78.Min:

The game has calmed down a bit, Schalke uses it to change: Drexler is watching from now on, Idrizi is allowed to participate.

73rd min:

Bittencourt with the next attempt after a ducksch attempt as a ricochet lands at the feet of the noble technician.

But he conjures him over the gate.

Werder Bremen against FC Schalke 04 in the live ticker: Werder presses on the opening goal

72nd min:

The impacts are getting closer.

Schalke switched before the chance for a free kick: Pieringer and Flick are now playing, Bülter and Latza have finished work.

71.Min: DUUUCKSCH!

The ball whizzes past the left corner of the goal!

That could have been 1-0!

69.Min

:

Foul on Mbom half-left, one meter from the edge of the penalty area.

Good position but good enough for a goal?

68.Min:

After a corner, everyone shouts “Hand!” In green and white, but neither referee Stieler nor the VAR respond to these nicely meant hints.

64th min: It was

Aydin.

64th min:

Phew!

We'll give the shooter's name afterwards, but almost from the sideline a Schalke fired a bullet in the direction of Pavlenka, which uncomfortably lowered itself onto the crossbar.

63.Min:

Schmid leaves the square, Schönfelder enters it.

63.Min

:

Mbom drives the ball through midfield and is not attacked.

He lifts his head, sees Ducksch and alludes to the attacker.

Fraisl does not have to intervene, however, as Ducksch's header just misses the far post.

60.Min:

Werder is more offensive, and again it is Romano Schmid who shakes off his guard with a twist of his body and then pulls the trigger from the second row.

The ball lands in the east curve.

58th Min: Filling jug!

First Schmid asserts himself first class on the left and draws the baseline towards the gate.

Schmid lifts his head and sees the empty filling jug in the middle, which he alludes to high - but the courageous direct pickup rushes over the Schalke goal with smack.

55.Min

:

Agu crosses from the right side and finds Ducksch on the left.

The unchanged score gives it away: The conclusion remains safe.

54th Min:

Long ball from Pavlenka, Füllkrug extended to Bittencourt, whose conclusion in the penalty area but bounced off Schalke's defense.

51.Min: And Toprak again, this man is on fire!

First Agu plays a bad pass at the front, which invites Schalke to counterattack Terodde.

The striker plays a one-two with Bülter and has already passed Pavlenka, but does not get the ball into the goal because the Capitano unpacks an even better tackle!

Really good chance, even better action from Toprak!

50 min:

Terodde appears on the left in front of the Werder goal and pokes the ball at the target from a tight angle, but who is there?

Of course Toprak, who deserves his next industrious star and clears the goal with his chest.

49.Min

:

Drexler does not play a back pass to Fraisl very cleanly, but the Schalke goalkeeper clears a bit shakily in front of the rushing filling mug.

48th Min:

Bittencourt catches a bad pass and takes out a corner.

However, Bremen does not capitalize on it.

Werder Bremen against FC Schalke 04 in the live ticker: The second half is running

46.Min: kick-off for the second half.

Werder is now playing on the east curve.

9:35 p.m.:

Palsson played well, but is threatened with expulsion.

Salazar comes for him.

9:34 p.m.:

So, we are freshly strengthened, and hopefully you and the players too.

The latter are back on the field, so the second half is about to start.

9:20 p.m.: As mentioned, we are now on the half-time break for 15 minutes.

Overall, Werder have a very, very slight play advantage, but that doesn't really translate into chances.

Both had only one of them each: First, Terodde narrowly fails with a lifter, later Palsson scratches a filling mug shot off the line.

The second half will certainly have more goal scenes in store for us!

45 + 3 min:

At the break whistle, Anthony Jung shoots from the second row.

But since Bittencourt irritates him a little, his low shot from 20 meters is not particularly dangerous.

45 + 1 min:

Schmid and Ducksch try this time together on the left, but Ducksch loses sight of the ball and unintentionally puts it out of the goal.

44th Min:

Bittencourt dribbles the Schalke defense again and tries a solo, but gets stuck again.

40.Min:

Now there is a bit of excitement again: Bittencourt turns around Aydin in the penalty area and falls, but neither we nor referee Stieler saw a penalty.

In the following Schalke counterattack, Palsson, who had just been praised, jumped rabidly into the duel with the likewise praised Toprak and hit him in the foot.

Stieler leaves it at yellow for Palsson.

You can give it that way.

39.Min:

The game mainly takes place in midfield.

This is partly due to Toprak and Palsson, who put everything out at the back before it can even get dangerous.

36.Min:

Schmid is looking for Bittencourt in the middle, but he just misses the slightly deflected short pass.

33rd Min:

Latza saw a yellow card in the previous scene after a foul on Bittencourt.

Small supplement.

Werder Bremen against FC Schalke 04 in the live ticker: Simon Terodde and Niclas Füllkrug just missed

32nd min: Now something's going on!

First the Werder defense fly two balls around the ears, then the Bremen counterattack runs.

Schmid lifts the ball on Ducksch, who trips the ball inwards.

There Füllkrug spits the ball on goal, but Palsson saves on the line!

First really good chance from Werder!

30.Min:

Noticeable at Werder are the many long balls on the wingers, especially Agu.

Füllkrug is also often searched for as a target player in the front, just not found.

28.Min

:

Applause from the scene for Schmid, who fights for a ball with full physical effort in midfield.

27.Min:

That's right.

Both are back on the field after a short break in treatment.

26.Min:

Not much is happening right now.

Agu and Drexler are lying on the floor after they both crashed into each other without braking.

Both are treated.

From a distance, however, it doesn't look dramatic.

21.Min:

It won't be harmless!

Schmid hits the free kick in the penalty area, where it falls from Schalke's unsorted defense at Christian Groß's feet.

But he is a bit surprised and puts the ball clearly over it.

20.Min:

Free kick for Werder after Aydin fouled Bittencourt.

The Schalke sees the first yellow card of the game.

18.Min:

Ducksch lets a ball pass on Agu.

The wing racer has a lot of space on the right, but uses this to a much too wide flank that nobody can do anything with.

16.Min:

Ömer Toprak clears a long ball addressed to Terodde with his head to the corner.

It lands again at Toprak, this time he knocks the ball out of the way.

15.Min:

Schalke has a little more of the action in their hands here, without being deliberate.

But the game is still very young.

11.Min: Phew!

Terodde stands at the right sixteen corner and sees that Pavlenka is standing a little too far in front of the box.

His jack goes just next to the gate.

That was the first really big chance of the game!

9.Min

:

Agu wants to head a high ball back to Pavlenko, but the ball is a bit too sharp and goes out.

Fortunately, the corner remains safe.

7.Min:

Toprak!

After a mistake by Mbom, Bülter takes off and penetrates the Werder sixteen.

Toprak is on the man and defuses the ball with a perfect tackle on the man!

6.Min:

Bittencourt extends a long ball with his head on Ducksch who has started well, but he gets stuck in the penalty area.

5.Min:

Bittencourt fights for the ball in the middle and puts it on Ducksch on the left.

Ducksch plays across and in the back of the defense, where Mbom comes rushing in, but at the last moment he is fairly skittled.

Good scene!

3. Min:

Bittencourt dribbles with guts from the left into the penalty area, gets stuck on the third Schalkter defender.

Jung pursues, but fouls.

Werder Bremen against FC Schalke 04 in the live ticker: The ball is rolling

2. Min:

Werder of course in green jerseys that Schalke are white.

The hosts have their east curve behind them at first.

1.Min: kick-off!

The game is on!

8:29 p.m .:

The stadium is packed full of picks, the east curve shows an impressive choreography and the teams are ready.

The kick-off will be in a few seconds, we're hot!

8:20 p.m.:

It is also a duel between two second division goal scorers: Marvin Ducksch (56 goals) has to stretch a little to the mark of Schalke's Simon Terodde (153 goals).

If Terodde hits today, he will overtake Dieter Schatzschneider and become the only record scorer in the history of the 2nd Bundesliga.

He's welcome to wait a little longer for this title ...

8:13 p.m.:

At this point we take a look at the referees.

With Tobias Stieler, a very experienced man is in charge of the game today.

He whistled 13 times for SV Werder, only three of these games were won by Bremen.

He is assisted by Marcel Unger and Konrad Oldhafer, the fourth official is Tim-Julian Skorczyk, the VAR is called Christian Dingert.

8:07 p.m.:

Werder sports director Frank Baumann conjures up the presumption of innocence in a TV interview and does not want to give a personal assessment of the events surrounding Markus Anfang.

However, he condemned the forgery of vaccination documents in general "the strongest".

At the end he emphasizes: "We are trying to concentrate on football."

8 p.m.:

Good news from the state capital of Lower Saxony: The Werder U23 win 2-1 at Hannover 96 II. A good omen?

7:58 p.m.:

Should Werder win 3-0 today, both teams would be equal on points and goals.

Then the direct comparison would ensure that Werder moves up to 7th place.

7.55 p.m.:

Werder are now unbeaten again in the 2nd Bundesliga, but only scored five points.

For Schalke, however, things went really badly in the last games: The 0: 1 in the cup against third division 1860 Munich was followed by defeats in the league in Heidenheim (0: 1) and against Darmstadt (2: 4).

So the guests are under a lot of pressure.

7:50 p.m.:

And that shouldn't go unmentioned either: Werder won two of the last three games, the third (and youngest) duel ended with a 1-1 draw in precisely this stadium.

7.46 p.m.:

The history of the encounters between the two clubs is a little older.

It is already the 113th meeting.

And yet it is a premiere: For the first time both meet in the 2nd Bundesliga.

Hopefully after the second leg next year for the last time, then again in the House of Lords.

The balance is quite balanced: 47 Werder victories, 44 times the Knappen won, 21 matches ended in a draw.

7.44 p.m.: But

one

person

should be particularly hot today: Fabio Chiarodia.

The Werder youngster could be in the matchday squad for the first time and could possibly make his professional debut - at the age of just 16!

7.40 p.m.:

The guests from Gelsenkirchen naturally also send staff into the race.

Trainer Dimitrios Grammozis relies on Fraisl - Thiaw, Itakura, Kaminski - Aydin, Drexler, Palsson, Latza, Ouwejan - Terodde, Bülter.

Behind them, Fährmann (ET), Matriciani, Wouters, Flick, Idrizi, Ranftl, Rzatkowski, Zalazar and Pieringer scramble with their hooves and are eager for a mission in front of a great backdrop!

Werder Bremen against FC Schalke 04 in the live ticker: The line-ups are there

7:34 p.m.:

Compared to the 2-1 victory in Nuremberg before four, this means changes to four positions: Toprak, Groß, Agu and Bittencourt play for Friedl, Veljkovic, Weiser and Rapp.

Zetterer (ET), Weiser, Assalé, Schönfelder, Mai, Straudi, Chiarodia, Dinkci and Schmidt take their places on the bench.

7.30 p.m.:

The lineups are there!

Werder starts with the following staff: Pavlenka - Toprak, Groß, Jung - Schmid, Bittencourt, Gruev, Mbom, Agu - Ducksch, Füllkrug.

7:26 p.m.:

The Weser Stadium is slowly filling up.

Of course, despite all the adversities, nobody wants to miss the duel between the two traditional teams at prime time.

42,000 spectators will be there today, that means for the second time in the season: sold out!

7.16 p.m.:

Moin, Moin from the good dyke room! At the end of a turbulent day from Werder's point of view, there is of course the duel against FC Schalke 04. Good luck at this point to all who read along from the deepest west. Of course, we concentrate largely on the sport here. The statements should be available in about ten minutes. We are excited to see which eleven players Danijel Zenkovic will place his trust in today.

Werder Bremen against Schalke 04 - the preliminary report:

Werder Bremen against Schalke 04 - it almost feels like it used to be

Duell der Bundesliga-Absteiger! Der SV Werder Bremen empfängt am Samstag (20.30 Uhr) den FC Schalke 04 im Wohninvest Weserstadion zum Kracher-Duell der 2. Liga.

Was verständlich ist.
