The Israeli basketball team begins its journey tonight (Thursday) in the 2023 World Cup qualifiers with a new coach on the lines - Guy Goodes. The coach who also coaches Maccabi Rishon Lezion, replaced Oded Katash in the position and the baptism of fire he does in a home game against Poland, a team that lost twice to Israel in the European Championship qualifiers. The blue-and-whites hope to open the campaign on the right foot, just before they go to the away game in Estonia. Guy Goodes' players were also placed at home together with Germany, Poland and Estonia, with the three teams that finish first at the end of the six rounds advancing to the next qualifying round.
Guy Goodes' roster includes several veteran and experienced players such as Gal Makal, Guy Pnini and Jake Cohen, who was released from Maccabi Tel Aviv for the pair of games, as well as Yiftach Ziv. Makal is one of three legionnaires on the team, along with Tomer Ginat and Yam Madar. The main name in the Polish team is center Olek Belczarowski, a 21-year-old center who rises to a height of 2.19 and may make it difficult for the host's inside players.
