Thanks to goals that are well worth seeing, VfB Stuttgart has ended its negative streak in the Bundesliga and collected three points in the battle to stay up.

Stuttgart won 2: 1 (1: 1) against 1. FSV Mainz 05 at the start of the 13th matchday on Friday evening.

Hiroki Ito (21st minute) and Borna Sosa (51st) scored their first Bundesliga goals for VfB, which had lost all of the previous four competitive games and now at least temporarily moved from 16th to 13th place in the table.

"Very, very important" are the three points, said goal scorer Sosa at DAZN.

"We're very happy." Alexander Hack (39th) scored for the eighth-placed Mainz team, who had previously been unbeaten in the league four games in a row.

Even the Stuttgart tour was worth seeing: Ito slipped the ball from the left into the far corner with a lot of feeling.

Hundreds of weight were still there with his fingertips, but could no longer prevent the hit.

It was the seventh goal of the season in Stuttgart by a defender.

Four minutes later, VfB almost got the opportunity to add a penalty kick, but according to the video images, referee Matthias Jöllenbeck withdrew the penalty he had initially imposed.

Instead, Hack hit a head after a corner to equalize for Mainz.

The goal of the day was scored by defender Sosa: After a pass from Orel Mangala, who had also set up the 1-0, Sosa shot the ball from an acute angle under the crossbar from the left.

"Everyone thinks I wanted to cross now, but I really wanted to shoot," Sosa said.

"A draw would probably have been more deserved," said Mainz sports director Martin Schmidt, describing Sosa's winning goal as a "Sunday shot on Friday evening".

His coach Bo Svensson said: "We should never have lost this game."
