The 33-year-old ex-coach from Holstein Kiel signed a contract in Bremen that will run until 2023 and will succeed Markus Anfang, who resigned after investigations by the public prosecutor because of a suspected forged vaccination certificate.
"Ole is a young, exciting and very good coach whose idea of playing football fits in very well with Werder," said sports director Frank Baumann.
"He worked successfully as head coach in Kiel, knows the 2nd Bundesliga and, as a North German, will quickly find his way around Bremen."
