Cross-country skiers are used to the cold. But the current conditions at the competition site near the Arctic Circle are too harsh for the organizers - they postpone the start.

The start of the cross-country skiing world cup chase has been postponed because the temperatures are too low. The competition, which was supposed to start at 10:20 a.m. in Ruka, now starts at 11 a.m. On Sunday morning, temperatures of less than minus 20 degrees Celsius were measured at the World Cup location near the Arctic Circle. The jury wants to continue to monitor the situation and inform about possible further postponements. The men's race in the free technique is scheduled for 12.30 p.m.

In the 10-kilometer race on Saturday, Katharina Hennig from Oberwiesenthal caused a surprise with her third place.

The 25-year-old only had to admit defeat to the Swede Frida Karlsson and Therese Johaug from Norway in the classic technique competition.

Hennig was only 1.5 seconds short of her favorite discipline on Johaug, who is otherwise so dominant over the long distance.

Teammate Victoria Carl came in eleventh place.

“I'm super happy.

The skis were just great, I had real rockets under my feet.

But I wouldn't have expected that in my life, ”said Hennig, who slumped to the floor exhausted after crossing the target, later on ZDF.

Hennig explained that she had coped "very well" with the cold.

In Ruka it was still minus 16 degrees.

Not as polar as it was on Sunday - but also very frosty.
