Rugby: operation of both knees for Bastareaud

2021-11-29T16:00:10.863Z

The former international was seriously injured with the LOU on the lawn of Toulon last Saturday. His career is probably over ...

His sad and heartbreaking exit from the lawn of the Mayol stadium last Saturday left little hope for a bright future for Mathieu Bastareaud.

This Monday, the third center line and captain of the LOU, 33, underwent an MRI at Sainte-Anne hospital in Toulon.

The verdict is terrible and very rare at the same time: rupture of the quadriceps tendon of both knees.

The former French international will be repatriated to Lyon where he will be operated on Thursday by Doctor Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet, who had already operated on his left knee at the start of the year.

He will then have to go through a long rehabilitation in the Var (where he still owns a house after his time at the RCT from 2011 to 2019), simply to walk again.

Especially since Bastareaud had barely emerged from twelve months of hardship ...

Almost a year ago, on December 27, 2020, the Cristolien had already suffered a rupture of the quadriceps tendon of the left knee.

On September 27, his return to the Top 14 pitches was short-lived.

The Lyonnais then fractured the fourth metacarpal bone of his right hand.

With an operation and a new absence of two months to the key.

For a few bad luck stolen minutes on Mayol's lawn before collapsing screaming in pain.

Suffice to say that the career of the former Blue is now more than dotted ... Even if he has often shown a mental strength to get up, Bastareaud will find it difficult to fight against a body that gradually lets go. and no longer seems able to withstand high-level cadences ...
