Corona protection comes before fun on the slopes

Whether children, teenagers or adults: everyone is hot for skiing. But there are many signs that boarding fun will be thwarted this winter too.

Whether children, teenagers or adults: everyone is hot for skiing.

But there are many signs that boarding fun will be thwarted this winter too.

District

- The incidence values in many Bavarian districts and ski areas are four-digit.

Austria announced a lockdown until mid-December.

For the time being, activities or events outside of 2G or 2G-plus seem hardly feasible.

These are anything but good framework conditions for planning the skiing winter 2021/22.

Despite the uncertain Corona situation, the district's ski clubs hope that their members can still pursue their hobby this winter.

The start has been bumpy so far - and similar to the previous year, it has been marked by cancellations.

Hague ski club

The ski flea market was canceled again in mid-November.

Although there were a few registrations in advance, everything was very hesitant, so that it was with a heavy heart that this decision had to be made, reports the chairman of the Haag Ski Club, Martin Arzberger.

Due to the pandemic, the Advent market was also canceled at the beginning of December.

As far as the activities on the slopes are concerned, the ski club boss sees nothing until the beginning of January.

But he has not given up hope: “We are confident that something will happen at the end of January and the beginning of February.

But of course we have to follow the guidelines and therefore don't know. "

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

A lot is planned for the Hague. Two three-day ski and snowboard courses each in February and March, plus a few day ski trips to St. Johann. Will these plans actually be implemented? Arzberger knows that this is not in the hands of the association. The Haag Ski Club will continue to adhere to the applicable rules in the future. However, this could lead to events being canceled shortly in advance, even if that made the situation difficult. “This applies in particular to the trainers who do not know whether they are needed or not,” explains the chairman. While the number of trainers has remained almost constant, the ski club has lost a lot among its members: from 500 members before the pandemic, the number has now fallen to 360. Martin Arzberger even shows understanding for this.“Despite the small contribution, many ask themselves: Why should I pay it if nothing works? The situation is now difficult for all clubs because the club community is falling apart - that is the main problem! The whole club life is dead. "

Ski club walls

A few days ago at least the ski bazaar took place inside walls.

"Probably because we are the only ones where it takes place outside and we make the area available free of charge," says Mauern's ski club chairman Margit Wisheu.

On the other hand, the supervisor trip, the internal training for trainers, the Christmas parties, the skiing of the support group and the ski course dates in December have already been canceled.

Registrations, for example, for the children's, youth and adult ski courses in January, the three-day ski trip in Sölden and the South Tyrol trip are still ongoing.

One would like to get a feeling for the extent to which there would be a need at all.

“I fear, however, that the corona numbers will not decrease anytime soon.

I see things relatively bleakly for January, ”says the Mauerner ski club boss.

“Of course I hope that something is possible after that.

However, since Austria will introduce compulsory vaccinations from February, this could be difficult for some guests and also for the children.

You have to see how the situation develops.

However, just because we are allowed to, we will not put everything on one card and pull it through with all our might. "

This premise could also apply to the popular Ski Bunny Ball on January 29th.

“Otherwise we'll try to do everything that is possible anyway.

But we have already prepared everything to be able to offer online courses again. ”There will definitely be another Advent run challenge this year.

If skiing should not be possible in 2022 either, that would be extremely sad from Margit Wisheu's point of view: “But if there is a fire everywhere in the hospitals and in the health system, you don't have to take buses to ski and take risks - regardless of whether it is the street or on the slopes.

The health system belongs there to be protected. "

Ski club Au

In Au there is no ski course at all this year. Because this would have required extensive and early planning, which would not have been possible under the given circumstances, says Chairman Klaus Brendel. Due to the latest developments in Bavaria and Austria, the Christmas party and the start of the season in Kaltenbach have now been canceled. The other two ski dates in December will almost certainly also be canceled. The events planned for 2022 remain in the calendar and can also be booked.

"My current assessment is that we are holding just as few events this year as we were last winter," fears Brendel.

"We are still in good spirits and hope, but then we also have to face the current reality and - if necessary - cancel the planned events at short notice." Brendel believes that this could also apply to the activities of the ski club in the coming Carnival : “We cannot celebrate on the one hand, while on the other hand there are more and more sick people.” Pleasing for the chairman: The number of members has remained almost unchanged - despite the failed winter and the uncertain prospects for it.

Hohenkammer ski club

“We have offers. We don't yet know whether we can use it, ”says department head Vroni Kistler. Especially with the adult day trips to Austria in January and February, it could be difficult to even get the minimum number of 30 participants. “The question is: how many people are riding when I say only 2G and with FFP2 masks?” The ski club manager knows. “I have already been attacked by email that I would discriminate against the unvaccinated. But the rules are not made by me or the club, they are the rules that a club has to adhere to. "

The children's ski course in January is particularly important to Vroni Kistler. That would only lead to Bavarian ski areas. And if necessary, she would wait until a week before the appointment until the course actually had to be canceled. Because the registrations showed that the children are really excited to finally go skiing again. But not only that, the chairwoman knows: "None of us adults stood on skis last winter - and that's why everyone is scratching their hooves this year, of course."

Four weeks ago, it was all the more difficult for her to call off the family leisure time in Wildschönau from January 2nd to 5th in advance.

But a phone call with the hut keeper in Austria had already suggested that the effort for corona testing and compliance with regulations would be so unclear and large that it would be better not to offer the event at all.
