The Syrian Olympic Committee stands in solidarity with China in confronting the American campaign of blackmail

The Syrian Olympic Committee announced its solidarity with the People's Republic of China in the face of the American campaign of blackmail aimed at influencing Beijing's hosting of the Winter Olympic Games next February.

The committee said in a statement that SANA received a copy of today: “At a time when Chinese preparations for hosting the Winter Olympics in Beijing in February are nearing completion, the US President recently stated that his administration is considering a boycott by US officials of these games under the pretext of China’s violations of human rights.” "A number of governments affiliated with the US administration rushed to support the US position in the campaign of blackmailing the friendly People's China."

The committee stressed the necessity of adhering to the basic principles and guidelines that formed the Olympic Charter, in particular the principle of “political neutrality”, keeping sports away from political quarrels and respecting the tournament’s slogan, which is together for a common future.

In its statement, the Committee called on the International Olympic Committee to take a clear position expressing the importance of this occasion and the need to respect the Olympic Charter.
