The top game between Bayern and their pursuers Dortmund was an exciting one right from the start. In the meantime, BVB even seemed to be able to overthrow the championship leader. In the end, however, the game decided a penalty.

In an exciting top Bundesliga match, Bayern Munich won 3-2 (2-1) at Borussia Dortmund.

In a promising game, Robert Lewandowski scored twice (9th minute, 77th) and Kingsley Coman (44th) for the record champions, Julian Brandt (5th) gave Dortmund an early lead, while Erling Haaland equalized (47th).

Before the game of the league leaders (Bayern) against the first pursuers, there was speculation about how strong BVB actually is.

Although only one point separated him from the record champions before the game, he was surprisingly eliminated prematurely in the Champions League.

The start of the game was all the more surprising: After a diagonal ball from Dortmund's Jude Bellingham, Brandt got the ball in the penalty area, let Alphonso Davies get out and shot alone in front of Manuel Neuer on the right (5th).

In any case, Bayern showed themselves to be particularly vulnerable in the first few minutes on deep passes - especially on the fast Haaland.

After the first wave of attack from Dortmund, Bayern took over: After a bad pass by Mats Hummels at the center line, the central defender lost a duel with Thomas Müller when he rushed the ball.

Lewandowski was the first to come to the rescue, grabbed the ball and finished to equalize (9th).

Dortmund uncertain under construction

But not only Hummels, but the entire Dortmund defense seemed insecure, especially with the ball.

After a catastrophic bad pass by Emre Can in his own penalty area, Kingsley Coman was blocked at the last moment (22nd).

The 44th minute matched: Raphaël Guerreiro shot when clearing Hummels, again the ball came to Coman, who shot in this time.

After the break, Dortmund caught Bayern again with an early start: After a cross from the right, Dayot Upamecano slipped slightly and the ball was not cleared.

Bellingham put to Haaland, who flicked his weaker right foot into the far corner - a wonderful goal (47th).

As a result, the game remained exciting, but not only in terms of playability: First there were discussions about an unpunished foul by Hernández in the penalty area on Marco Reus (53rd), then concerns about Brandt, who was hard after a clash with Upamecano hit the grass and had to be carried off the pitch (66th).

The game was then decided by the intervention of the video assistant.

He had discovered a handball in Hummels' penalty area, referee Felix Zwayer decided on a penalty.

After Lewandowski had put in the lead for Bayern (77th), Dortmund coach Marco Rose got yellow-red because of ongoing protests that had already started when the whistle against Reus did not come.

In a long final phase, Zwayer allowed ten minutes to replay due to the Brandt injury, Dortmund could not equalize again.
