After the prefecture's refusal to organize the meeting in Cannes for security reasons, the amateur club of the Alpes-Maritimes is retro

Desperately looking for land to play the Coupe de France.

The amateur club of Cannet-Rocheville, in the Alpes-Maritimes, finds itself without a solution to host Olympique de Marseille in the 32nd final of the competition, after the prefect's refusal to authorize a meeting at the Cannes stadium for questions of security.

"We were happy to welcome OM, heavyweight in Ligue 1, but the dream has turned into a nightmare", regretted the president of ES Cannet-Rocheville, Emmanuel Stella, during a press conference this Monday.

Its stadium is not approved to receive OM, the National 3 club planned to play at the Pierre-de-Coubertin stadium in Cannes the meeting scheduled for December 19 at 13:45. If the mayor of Cannes David Lisnard has, according to the club, accepted to host the match, the same does not apply to the prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, who told elected officials that he could not "pronounce favorably on the holding of this match in Cannes". In order to guarantee the safety of the event, at least two mobile force units (UFM) would be necessary in addition to the local personnel. However, "very strong constraints weigh on the employment of UFM", explained the prefect Bernard Gonzalez.

But above all, after the incidents of the Nice-OM match at the end of August, the prefect fears both the presence of Marseille supporters who "even in the event of a travel ban, would manage to buy places" and that "almost certain of ultras from Nice ". The bitterness of the N3 club is reinforced by the fact that the day before, December 18, Cannes receives Dijon in the same stadium in Coubertin. “But the security issues are not the same,” replies the prefect. Another solution would be to play the match at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille "but it costs 300,000 euros just to open the stadium, so it's impossible", explained Michèle Tabarot, head of the municipal majority and LR MP.

For Christian Lopez, sports director of the Cannet club and former international defender of Saint-Etienne, “we thought that playing at the Vélodrome was even good for OM.

But when you see what they ask, they would do better not to register for this competition, it would not cost them money ”.

The club will now ask the prefect "if there is a fallback ground in the Alpes-Maritimes, because it is out of the question to go and play in Martigues or Istres", towns of Bouches-du-Rhône close to Marseille , other alternatives proposed.
