Former footballer Lior Assulin will enter the gates of the Maasiyahu prison tomorrow (Wednesday) morning to serve 19 months in prison after being convicted of drug trafficking earlier this year.

Assouline, 41, took advantage of the past month to meet up with friends, have fun and spend a lot of time with his three children who at certain times raised him alone.

In an interview with Walla!

Sport Just before entering the prison, Assouline said: "The imprisonment is 19 months, but there are all sorts of mitigating clauses of good behavior and others that I hope to win. The last few days have been devoted to me to make up for what I will lack later."

How do the kids take it?

"They internalize. The children have already grown up. They are 16, 15 and 14."

In the past you said you raised them alone.

"Yes, there were times but today they are with my ex-wife."

Are you in a good relationship with the children?

"Sure. My kids are my life."

Did you have to have a lot of conversations with them?

"No. They are smart kids. Understand the situation."

Would you like the prison sentence in Maasiyahu prison?

"I do not know exactly what will happen. I need to report to Maasiyahu and see what happens next."

How do you feel the night before entering the prison?

"That's a time I'm going to be with myself. Time for thought. Trying to take this bad place for good and leverage it for the day after. There's not much to feel beyond that."

How do you sleep at night before entering prison and what do you think about during the day?

"Honestly, do not think much. The head is not in place but here has already come the date."

"Waiting for jail ate me from the inside out."

You probably already want to come in and finish with this long wait.

"The truth is. Enough, I want to end this situation already."

Desire the punishment and embark on a new life.

"Waiting for jail has eaten me from the inside out. It doesn't let you go on living. But okay, there's nothing to do. Life is stronger than anything. Sometimes things happen."

Do you still dream about football at night?

"During this period I dream less about football. Last season I coached at Kfar Bara in the second division. My connection today to football comes down to my friendships with Noble Omar. I watch football only because of Noble Omar. I follow him at Maccabi Haifa and that is how I keep in touch with football. "Probably in the Premier League. Omar is a star and I am happy for him. Now we will take a break and go to prison for the hope that everything will go well and in peace."
