Six players and two members of the staff of Tottenham, who is due to face Rennes in the Europa League Conference on Thursday, have tested positive for Covid-19, several English media said on Tuesday.
PCR tests would be underway to confirm the first results, specifies the PA press agency, recalling that there had been two cases of "false positives" among Spurs in mid-October.
Currently second in Group G of the Europa Conference Conference behind Rennes, already qualified and guaranteed to finish first, Tottenham is neck and neck with the Dutch at Vitesse Arnhem who receive the Slovenes from Mura, last and eliminated.
The holding of the match itself is not threatened, a team must have less than 13 able-bodied players to forfeit.
But Londoners absolutely have to score at least as good as their rivals to qualify for the round of 16.
These cases of Covid could also have repercussions on the league matches to come, in Brighton, Sunday, then against Leicester on Thursday, and Liverpool, the following Sunday, while the Spurs have just returned to the race for the C1 with three Premier League rank wins.
Asked by PA, the club had made no comment at midday.
