Tromsö IL criticizes Qatar with a jersey campaign: If you scan this QR code, you will learn about human rights violations in Qatar

Tromsö IL is the northernmost professional club in the world - and has long called for a boycott of the World Cup in Qatar. Norway's national team is not even qualified, but Tromso doesn't care - the club is only really attacking now.

The Norwegian first division soccer team Tromsö IL is raising awareness of human rights violations in the World Cup host country Qatar.

The “northernmost professional club in the world” will be playing in jerseys with a huge QR code on the chest and sleeves.

Once scanned, this leads to a website with information on the situation in the desert state.

"We cannot pretend that football and politics have nothing to do with each other," the club writes on its website: "We must never look the other way when someone is using our wonderful game to cover up the violation of human rights."

The jersey will be worn for the first time at the season finale in the Eliteserien on Sunday against Viking Stavanger.

A few months ago Tromso started the boycott movement in Norway against the World Cup in Qatar.

The attempt to persuade the national team to give up failed during an association day in the summer.

In autumn, the team around Dortmund striker Erling Haaland missed the finals in a sporty way.

This means that critical questions should not be a thing of the past, demanded Tromsö's club boss Öyvind Alapnes: "We should ask ourselves how many people have to die before we are willing to sacrifice success." Last but not least, show the award of the Club World Cup 2021 by Fifa in the United Arab Emirates.

The action is supported by Amnesty International and Malcolm Bidali.

The Kenyan himself worked in Qatar and was imprisoned there after reporting on local grievances.

The Qatari authorities condemned Bidali for spreading "fake news" and confiscated his mobile phone and social media accounts, according to human rights groups.

He was released from his month-long detention in August.
