Cycling star Mark Cavendish has apparently been the victim of an armed robbery. The 36-year-old Brit announced this on Wednesday afternoon in a post on the short message service Twitter. The incident occurred in the early hours of November 27, wrote Cavendish. At that time, the world-class sprinter was recovering from the injuries he sustained during the six-day race in Ghent, Belgium, at home in Essex. Cavendish had broken two ribs in a fall and suffered a small collapsed lung. According to Sky Sports, the police are dealing with the case, an emergency call was received at 2.35 a.m.
"Four masked and armed men broke into our house while we were sleeping," wrote Cavendish.
They threatened his wife and children and attacked him violently, only to rob him at the knife point.
Among other things, two watches of great personal value were stolen.
More difficult, however, is the loss of the feeling of "security, protection, privacy and dignity" within one's own four walls, according to Cavendish.
The record stage winner of the Tour de France, who had just extended his expiring contract with the Deceuninck-Quick Step team by a year the day before, spoke of a "nightmare" and asked for relevant information.
