Patrick Van Leven ended his career at the club on October 26 following the embarrassing 2-0 home loss to CBS Ashdod and has since been head of the football department Barak Yitzhaki, who holds a pro certificate and served as interim coach, but after more than a month an official announcement was made about the appointment of a new coach.
As you may recall, Van Leven was the executive director of Maccabi Tel Aviv for four years, until coach Yorgos Donis was fired on December 23, 2020 and he took his place. The Dutchman managed to bring Maccabi Tel Aviv back to the championship fight last season, won the state cup with it and therefore won a vote of confidence and extended his contract as the team coach, but the bad season opener that included only two victories in the last seven rounds did its thing.
Despite this, Van Leven led Maccabi Tel Aviv to the next stage in the Conference League and the loss to Lask Linz in the last round that decided that the team would finish second and not first at home was already in the era of interim coach Barak Yitzhaki - who won three league wins against Hapoel Tel Aviv Galilee landscape.
