Again, a four-goal lead was not enough for the ice pirates of the ESC Dorfen.
Geretsried / Dorfen - After all, the badly decimated troop brought home a counter after a great fight.
In the penalty shootout, the Steer protégés had to admit defeat to the River Rats of ESC Geretsried 4: 5 (4: 0, 0: 3, 0: 1; 0: 1).
Both opponents recently had to struggle with personnel problems and consequently to digest defeats and game cancellations. “Geretsried is always strong against us,” said Dorfen's ice hockey boss Manfred Detterbeck. His suspicion should not deceive him: 15 of the first 16 men on the internal scorer list came up. The ice pirates were completely different: Half a dozen were missing from the field player line-up of only 13 men from the top ten.
But there were three Dorfen goal premieres: In his fourth game of the season, captain Christian Göttlicher scored his first goal of the season to make it 1-0. Geretsried's Josef Reiter would have had to sit in the penalty box for ten seconds when defender Erik Walter scored 2-0 - also a season's first goal. Raphael Steiger did not spoil himself with a 3-0 win in his fourth league game. David Hrazdira, temporarily wearing a Geretsrieder jersey in 2019/20, stole the disc from his ex-comrades who were outnumbered 50 seconds before the siren and made it 4-0.
With Max Freytag in goal for Martin Morczinietz, the hosts came out of the break and became more and more powerful. Nevertheless, it took more than half of this period of the game until a deja vu for Dorfen seemed to pave the way for the game two weeks ago in Klostersee (4: 5 after 4: 0). With too many penalties, the ESC fell behind. Gasper Susanj and Christoph Obermaier were sitting outside when Ondrej Horvath scored to 1: 4. With one man more, Benedikt May made it 2: 4. Once again outnumbered, it was even worse for Dorfen. Göttlicher had to go into the dressing room with a five-minute penalty plus playing time. The additional penalty followed with the 3: 4 by Josef Reiter.
With penalty times of two minutes on both sides, the final third was even.
Only the long-time Tölz DEL player Florian Strobl managed to score one goal.
After a goalless five-minute extension, it was left to Geretsried's top scorer Jakob Heigl, who had come from Riessersee, to decide the penalty shoot-out.
Horvath scored for Geretsried and Hrazdira for Dorfen.
