The Conference League game between Tottenham Hotspur and Stades Rennes, which was canceled due to the corona, has an aftermath.
Uefa, in cooperation with both clubs, have tried to find a workable solution for a catch-up date for the game originally scheduled for last Thursday so that the group stage can be concluded.
"Unfortunately, despite all efforts, no solution could be found that is acceptable for both clubs," announced the European Football Union on Saturday.
The game has now been finally canceled and the matter has been forwarded to the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Chamber, which is now to make a decision in accordance with the competition regulations.
The French lead in Group G and can no longer be pushed out of the top of the table.
For Tottenham, which is three points behind second Vitesse Arnheim, it is still about getting through to the knockout phase.
Tottenham's coach Antonio Conte had confirmed several corona cases on Wednesday.
Accordingly, eight Spurs players and five employees tested positive for the corona virus.
It was not known who it was.
The Spurs had then stated that the encounter could not take place, but the French guests insisted on it, as there was initially no official UEFA decision.
This then followed on Thursday.
Decision must be made by Monday
Time is of the essence: the pairings for the play-off round are to be drawn at 2 p.m. in Nyon on Monday.
There, the eight thirds in the Europa League group stage meet the eight runners-up in the Conference League.
Seven participants have been determined, only in Tottenham Group G a solution has yet to be found.
The games are to be played on February 17 and 24, 2022.
According to the Uefa statutes, it is to be expected that the game will soon be rated 3-0 for Rennes.
This would have eliminated the Spurs from the competition.
