Assaf Yasur after winning the world championship (Taekwondo Association)

Assaf Yasur just wanted to play football.

He was 13. The day before his birthday.

The head was already in the bar mitzvah celebrations.

Nothing prepared the family and him for the worst of all.

He was sitting with a friend near the house in Alonei HaBashan in the Golan Heights and saw a bullet in the machine room of the settlement.

When he went in to pick him up to play, he tripped and grabbed a high-voltage cable.

As a result he was electrocuted.

Both his hands charred on the spot and a tangible danger was posed to his life.

A helicopter was launched to fly him to the dreamer's house in Tel Hashomer.

For two weeks the doctors fought for his life.

The huge electric shock he received threatened to end his life completely.

Only after a series of surgeries could it be announced to the family that he would live.

Last night in Istanbul, seven years after the serious injury, Assaf Yasur, now 20 years old, won the world championship in wild taekwondo weighing up to 58 kilograms. This extraordinary guy who teamed up with the wonderful taekwondo coach Yehiam Sharabi, managed to break all barriers and win the title after missing the Paralympic Games in Tokyo just four months ago because he did not meet the criteria. "It's hard for me to even describe how I feel," Yasur said at night in a conversation with Walla! sport. "I'm happy. I'm excited. I know my family is home in the clouds."

You inspire the masses. Your story is inconceivable.

"I know it's what it feels like and it makes me feel very good. If someone can draw inspiration from me, it makes it even more special."

Do you still remember the moment of the injury?

"Sure. I remember well. It was the day before the bar mitzvah. The day before I celebrated 13. All in all I wanted to get a bullet out of the engine room at Alonei HaBashan and I touched my hands with a high voltage cable of tens of thousands of volts. My hands cooled down. There was nothing to save. I was in danger and was operated on several times until it was possible to make sure I stayed alive. "

Did not indulge in self-pity.

How does a child wake up from such surgeries and start his life without hands and with such a long rehabilitation ahead of him?

"Through football. I just wanted to play football after that. I was not interested in anything. I was not looking to be deep in what happened to me."

And how did you get to Taekwondo?

"Through Pascal Berkowitz. She introduced me to Yehiam Sharabi and I came to him in Ramla to learn the art of taekwondo martial arts. From here I started all my way. I knew that through sports I could overcome what I went through."

At home probably happy without limit.

"My parents and siblings are not here in Istanbul, but I know how happy and proud they are of what I did. I won on the way to the world title of very strong rivals. European champion and European runner-up. It was a very tough and challenging competition."
