Giesing's new belly?

No, Marcel Bär is happy here, who as a dad-to-be put a ball under his shirt and scored more first half goals than any other 1860 professional.

Everything was better before?

Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that.

If you look at the first half of the Löwen season, it is noticeable that Köllner's team has lost ground - in terms of points, goals and the table.

It used to be as simple as it was clear: after the first half of the season a cut was made, then came Christmas, a longer winter break - and when the first snow fell, a football season traditionally started in the second half of the season.

The late snow may be a subjective perception, but the rest had a long tradition. When not so much had to be packed into the schedule, the autumn master was also the winter master. A good first half of the season therefore had psychological relevance - because the result stopped after the first half series and was also included in the January preparation.

And in modern times?

Also because of the late start due to the corona, the cut last season was not made until mid-January - after the stragglers rounds 18 and 19. This year it's like in the pre-pandemic years: when most of the candles on the Advent wreath are already burning, it will be quick squeezed in the first matchday of the second half of the season.

Before it gets blurred, let us say: Magdeburg is half-time champion in the 3rd division, the first pursuers are Braunschweig (2nd place) and Mannheim - 1860, however, is ninth.

For the Lions one thing is certain: The additional game day before the festival can be used to make table cosmetics, provided three points in Würzburg (Monday, 7 p.m.).

But there is no getting around the truth.

It reads: Last year everything was better, as our first round comparison relentlessly reveals.

Points / placement

Seven points in the English week before Christmas, plus the six derby points at the beginning of January (2-0 against Bayern II, 1-0 against Ingolstadt) - the New Year booster gave the Lions a lot of tailwind in the battle for the relegation place last season.

A respectable 33 points were recorded after 19 rounds - a record for 1860 in the 3rd division.

On the other hand, the current first round balance: seven points less, which of course also have an effect in the table.

Instead of third place, Michael Köllner's team has to start the second half of the season from ninth place this time.

Noticeable: The difference can be traced back to a weaker away haul (11 points instead of 17) - it would have been even more striking had it not been for two Advent threesomes in Havelse and Dortmund in 1860.

Goal scoring

The Lions learned a year ago what a top scorer is worth.

Already after the first half of the season Sascha Mölders had 13 goals (22 in the end) - he didn't come close to this figure until he was out before the Dortmund game (18 appearances, 5 goals).

But what is often overlooked: Of the 38 first half goals in the past season, at least 25 were due to players who are not called Mölders.

This year, however: All lions met only 29 times together.

New signing Marcel Bär has six goals, Stefan Lex five, followed by Fabian Greilinger and Richard Neudecker with only two goals each.

It was not without reason that the new captain Lex said after the 2-0 win in Dortmund: "It should always be so that each of us can score a goal."

Defensive performance

After all: the lions do not lose much more often than last year (5 instead of 4 times).

And when it comes to the number of clear games, it's even 5: 5 in the first half of the season.

But that's it with good news from the defensive front.

Marco Hiller had to reach behind him a total of 27 times (mostly innocently) - eight times more than in the first 19 games of the previous season.

Collective sloppiness that the lions should put aside so that something is still going on in the second half of the season.
