In terms of personnel, there is currently a lot going on at EA Schongau.

However, as the guest appearance in Dorfen showed, other clubs are even worse off in this regard.

Schongau

- Small but nice: under this motto, EA Schongau competed at the ESC Dorfen.

The herd of "mammoths" consisted of only a dozen field players at the only game last weekend in the Bayern League.

The eight strikers and four defenders had enough quality to defeat the "ice pirates" 6: 2 (2: 1, 2: 0, 2: 1).

"We were more experienced and smarter," said EAS coach Rainer Höfler, summarizing the clarified appearance of his men at the village people, who were also weakened by replacement.

Ice hockey: Schongau missed several good chances in the first third

"At the ESC, important people were missing and they have a very young team," said Höfler, describing the main differences between the two teams.

The guests got off to a better start.

Roman Tomanek was allowed to curve unhindered in front of the home side's goal before he finished the attack with the 1-0 (6th).

After that, the "mammoths" failed to refill.

Instead, Gasper Susanj used a counterattack by the third from bottom of the Bayern League - even more so during a match against the Dorfener equalizer (15th).

“Otherwise we didn't allow much,” said Coach Höfler, “and Philipp Wieland held up well”.

Florian Höfler shot Schongau back in front before the first break in the power play (18th).

Ice hockey: Two hits in the middle section finally bring Schongau to victory

The home side came out of the locker room with a lot of verve.

The EAS left nothing to burn.

Instead, the guests increased to 3: 1 (25th) after a counterattack by Jason Lavallée.

A little later, the Schongau's fore-checking paid off.

Höfler punished the ESC's loss of the puck with a 4: 1 (27th).

The "mammoths", who meanwhile dominated the game, did not get any more hits in the middle section despite some clear possibilities.

Several times they failed because of Dorfen's goalkeeper Luca Endres.

Ice hockey: Schongau's Willy Knebel crashes unhappily with the referee

Also at the beginning of the last round, Tomanek and Lavallée found their master in the Dorfener goalkeeper. Only when the Schongau team had two more men on the ice than their opponents did Lavallée score the fifth goal for the EAS (49th). This finally broke the resistance of the home side and decided the game. Afterwards, EAS striker Willy Knebel, who clashed with the referee, caused a stir. After a short break in treatment, the referee was able to continue. With the "Mammuts", however, Florian Seelmann made half a dozen full with a twisting shot (54th). Shortly afterwards, Höfler gave his young goalkeeper Jan Richter some ice age. He also had to reach behind him again when Simon Franz exploited a solo to make it 6-2 (57th).“The bottom line was that we were clearly superior and deserved to win,” said the satisfied Höfler.

Ice hockey: Schongau has to play again on Wednesday in the catch-up game against Buchloe

The Schongauers don't have much time to look forward to their away win.

Already on Wednesday, December 15th, the “Mammoths”, who claimed sixth place thanks to their success at the ESC, await the table eighth ESV Buchloe for the catch-up game in Schongau (8pm).

"This is a strong opponent," said Höfler.

Last Sunday, ESV attracted attention with a 6: 3 win against fourth-placed Waldkraiburg.

Against Buchloe, who defeated the EAS 3-1 in the first leg, Daniel Holzmann, who was suspended last, returns to the Schongau team.

"Perhaps we will also get a few funding license players from Füssen," said Höfler.

He hopes for a better cast than the guest appearance in Dorfen.
