"Stop sending me money": Palmeiras fans demand a new striker in a special way | Israel today

2021-12-17T10:11:35.346Z

Just about two weeks ago the fans of the Brazilian luxury club celebrated a second consecutive win in the Libertadores Cup • Now, they have found a way to convince the new president to bring procurement for next season

The new president of the Brazilian luxury club - Palmeiras - appealed to fans to stop sending money to her personal bank account on Thursday, a day after the details were revealed at her inauguration ceremony.

Leila Pereira, who was elected last month as the first woman to be the club's president, was surprised when her ID number and home address were revealed at an event on Wednesday.

A few hours later, Pereira said fans were sending her money to purchase a new striker, via a direct transfer app called PIX.

"Last night when my address and ID number were revealed I received hundreds of PIX," Pereira said with a smile.

"It's unbelievable. When I saw it I thought I was being attacked by hackers. But how can this be an attack by hackers if they transfer money to my account? I've never seen anything like it."

"Palmeiras fans deposit money in my account so I can bring in a new striker. They even wrote it in the comments, it's unprecedented."

Pereira did not specify exactly how much money was sent to her, but said she would transfer the money to the club and asked fans to use their money to subscribe to next season and become members of the Palmeiras club.

"Do not send PIX to my account," she told reporters at her first press conference.

"Sign up for our membership program so you can help our football more directly."

Pereira serves as president of Crefisa, the Brazilian credit card company that sponsors Palmeiras.

The multi-millionaire businesswoman gave the fans a massive boost when she announced the Portuguese coach, but Pereira will continue at the club.

Pereira swept the team from Sao Paulo to a second straight win in the Libertadores Cup last month, and has already established his place as a club symbol.

"Our coach will stay with us and honor his contract until 2022," she said.

"How can you change such a winning team?"
