Ski star Thomas Dreßen had hoped to the last to get fit in time for the Olympic Games.

This dream has now finally been shattered.

Mittenwald - The German alpine skiing team has to accept the second painful loss at the Olympics.

Giant slalom specialist Stefan Luitz recently had to cancel the games in Beijing, and now downhill skier Thomas Dreßen is also hit.

The 2018 Kitzbühel winner will miss the World Cup races in Wengen and on the Streif in January and will no longer have the opportunity to qualify for the Olympics.

Anyway, the hopes of participation were only vague.

“There is no point in thinking about the Olympics,” the 28-year-old clarified at a virtual press conference.

The thought of a start was "done."

It doesn't hurt anyone more than myself. ”Dreßen's problem area is the right knee.

There was often talk of a "total loss", the 28-year-old had to ask himself fundamental questions: Does it still make sense to do competitive sports?

But he fought his way back, in a special procedure an attempt is made to rebuild the badly damaged cartilage.

Dreßen is currently on cross-country skis, but he hopes to be on alpine skis again soon.

“If I don't drive in Wengen, then I don't drive in Kitzbühel either.

That would be the wrong place. ”He has to give up his Olympic dream - nobody dares to answer whether the chance will come again in four years.

Ski ace Thomas Dreßen remains confident - the comeback will probably take place this winter

Nevertheless, Germany's best downhill skier in recent years remains optimistic.

In a fit condition he is one of the absolute best in the world.

“It all looks great with the knee.

The hard work has paid off, ”he reports.

Dreßen could make his comeback in March at the race in Kvitfjell, Norway.

"That is not impossible."

After all, things are going very well privately: Dreßen married his Birgit in the summer.
