As a spectator verbally attacked a player from the opposing team on Sunday in a German third division match


A German third division match was interrupted this Sunday after racist insults launched by a spectator against a player of the visiting team.

The match between Duisburg and Osnabrück was stopped by the referee after half an hour of play due to attacks suffered by striker Aaron Opoku.

Monkey cries were heard coming from the stands when the player came for a corner, explained match referee Nicolas Winter.

The latter sent the teams to the locker room "to take care of the player" after seeing "how shocked he was".

“I told him we were there to protect him,” he said.

The offending supporter was identified, left the stadium and apologized.

On their Twitter account, the host club confirmed that the match had been interrupted because "Osnabrück was no longer able to play".

As the teams returned to the locker rooms and before the announcement of the abandonment of the match, many supporters chanted: "The Nazis, out", and the anti-fascist song "Schrei nach Liebe" ("A call to love ”) Was performed in the stadium.
