Setback for SC Riessersee: Coach Pat Cortina's team lost 2: 4 at EC Peiting on Sunday evening.

Peiting - The little meanness shortly before the end was handed out by the Peitinger without intention. When Benjamin Kronawitter from SC Riessersee went to the penalty box, the stadium DJ "Sweet Caroline" turned on - the former SCR goal music, what a painful irony. The audience clapped half out of malice for Kronawitter and his stupid action, half out of anticipation for the next outnumbered game. With three power play goals, the Peitinger decided the second derby in the ice hockey Oberliga Süd and won 4: 2.

Of course, one could complain about the penalty times at this point or about the action of Michael Knaub, who in the duel of the bad boys was tempted by Florian Stauder of all people into a foul of revenge. Where Stauder likes to do it himself. But: The derby revealed a lot of fundamentals. It looked like a mirror from which the harsh reality looked back. The SC Riessersee of the top division season 2021/22 provides a staid ice hockey team that can win games exclusively through fighting and running elements. On too many days this team is lacking fire, but more creative elements are missing. Professionals with wit, who provide refreshing variety in this methodical and dreary two-tone: play disc deeply, chase disc. The only reliable one in this sector, Florian Vollmer, miss the Riesserseern regrettably injured.

Too often we don't play and fight for 60 minutes

SCR coach Pat Cortina

Derbies used to stand out against Peiting because they were particularly competitive. This year both teams are floating in different orbits. The SCR, as tough as it sounds, leads the lower midfield, which can admire the splendor of the leading group, but practically never beats them. In 19 games Riessersee has only won twice against a team that is currently in front of him in the table: on the first matchday against Rosenheim and a few weeks ago in Höchstadt, in the seventh. SCR coach Pat Cortina did not want to get involved in a small interim balance after well over a third. But his words said enough: “We don't play and fight too often for 60 minutes.” You don't need a decoding course for this sentence to grasp the scope. If the fight isn't always righthow do you even want to compete against the top teams in the league?

The truth of this second derby was that the SCR does not operate on the Peitinger level.

Of course, nobody at the ECP wanted to put it that way.

But it wasn't difficult to see.

In the analysis of the first third, both coaches agreed that it should have been at least 2-0 or 3-0 for Peiting.

"We weren't ready," said Cortina.

An unsuccessful attempt at liberation landed indirectly on Lukas Gohlke.

Two more scenes in which Peitinger had a half-empty goal in front of them defused goalie Daniel Allavena, who had so many clear chances to thwart that one was not sure whether he had received too few shots in training last time.

There was hardly any other explanation for the inadequate defensive work of his front men.

SC Riessersee: Robin Soudek operates result cosmetics

In section two the performance of the white-blue improved.

At least until the punishment festival started.

Knaub, who was already good for more than 100 penalty minutes per season in Heilbronn, attested Cortina “not his best performance”, but added quickly: “He wasn't the only one.” Kronawitter and Christopher Chyzwoski also fouled that led to goals so that Peiting led 4-1 after 37 minutes and decided the game for himself.

Robin Soudek shot the SCR again, but did not help.

In the final section, the guests themselves gave four chances to outnumber them.

But the power play is currently still one of the smaller problems of the Riessersee.
