The SE Freising will tackle the rest of the season in the regional league with a different squad.

There is good news from the hospital.

Freising

- How will the rest of the season be for the footballers at SE Freising? As seventh in the table in the Landesliga Südost, the Lerchenfelder are doing very well and also have a game up their sleeves. The difference to the relegation relegation ranks is currently only six points. It is also clear that coach Alex Plabst, who said goodbye to the SEF in the summer (we reported), will have to play the remaining 14 games with a changed squad.

Goalkeeper Patrick Negele left the club during the winter break.

Negele, 29, works as a teacher and was transferred to his home in Baden-Württemberg in the summer.

“At my request,” said Plabst, “he at least continued to play until winter.” Negele traveled specially for the games - but now it's over, the effort is simply too great.

"I'm extremely grateful to him for that," says the coach.

With this, however, the club is losing "one of the best keepers in the club's history," enthuses Plabst.

Ciao, Freising: With the 29-year-old Patrick Negele, the SEF loses "one of the best keepers in the club's history", according to coach Alex Plabst.

SE Freising brings ex-Moosburg regular keeper Heilmair

But a replacement has already been found - and twice: On the one hand, Maximilian Oswald from VfR Neuburg joined the SEF in the summer, and on the other, Patrik Heilmair joins the Freising national league team in the winter. The 26-year-old, who used to be the regular goalkeeper at TSV Moosburg, is moving from league rivals FC Schwaig to the Savoy Au region. He had only made three national league appearances at FCS. “He wants the challenge,” reports Plabst, who will initially prefer Oswald as number one. That was agreed with both of them for the first games, "this is a reward for Maxi for the waiting time in summer and autumn". In the next season, "the new coaches should then decide". Either way: midfielder Sebastian Thalhammer no longer has to help out as a substitute keeper.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Furthermore, Sebastian Niedermayer, an important offensive player, has left the club for the time being.

Before his injury in the fall, the 20-year-old was one of the most prominent midfielders at SEF, scoring three times and providing four goals in ten games.

But because Niedermayer's studies in Munich only take place online and he also has to complete an internship in Lower Bavaria, he will first return to his home town in Deggendorf.

“It's very bitter for us,” commented coach Alex Plabst.

Robert Rohrhirsch and Felix Günzel are back

On the other hand, when preparations begin at the end of January, the Lerchenfelder can look forward to numerous returnees. Niedermayer's place will then be taken by Robert Rohrhirsch: The 24-year-old completed his studies in the USA. Felix Günzel has also been to America again and again: The now 26-year-old was a regular in the 2015/16 season, is now back and can be used variably in midfield. “That's two hundred percent,” says Plabst.

There is also good news from the yellow-black long-term hospital: Both Sebastian Thalhammer and Vitus Kirchberger are about to make their comeback after a break of almost two years.

In addition, captain Florian Schmuckermeier's injury has healed surprisingly quickly: He will be back in January - just like defender Osaro Aiteniora, who had been injured since the end of August.

Otherwise, the lark fields want to sound out the market.

Or as coach Alex Plabst puts it: "When a treat opens up, we grab it."
