Sun Yang is banned until June 2024. China's swimming star is not allowed to use official training facilities during this time - but it apparently did so anyway. The World Anti-Doping Agency is now examining the allegations.

Sun Yang stands out again: The world anti-doping agency Wada is investigating new allegations against the banned Chinese swimming star.

As the British daily newspaper "The Times" reports, he trained in institutions that are supported by the state.

The 30-year-old is not allowed to do that during his suspension.

"Wada takes these allegations about Sun Yang very seriously," a spokesman said on Sunday at the request of the German Press Agency.

"We are examining the matter and will contact the relevant authorities, including the international swimming federation (Fina)," it said in a statement.

This is done "to collect further information and to be able to determine whether the swimmer has violated the conditions of his ban."

The Fina confirmed to be in contact with the Wada.

More information has been requested from the Chinese Swimming Association.

Sun Yang had already been banned from doping for three months in 2014 and had previously disregarded anti-doping regulations.

In this case, it is mainly about the sample from autumn 2018 that was destroyed with a hammer. The swimmer's environment was directly involved.

Suspension ends before Paris 2024

Sun Yang was banned from the Cas on June 22nd of this year in a retrial for four years and three months.

The three-time Olympic champion had violated anti-doping regulations.

The suspension began retrospectively on February 28, 2020 and would end in June 2024, a few weeks before the Olympic Games in Paris.

However, Sun, a three-time Olympic champion, would be 32 years old by then.

Before reducing the ban, Sun had hoped the ban would be reduced to two years.

The reason: He wanted to end his career at the Asia Games in China - just as he started it in Beijing 2008: with prestigious successes in his home country, of which he is the greatest active sports hero.
