The world association FIFA is promoting the idea of a new two-year cycle for soccer world championships with studies on major financial advantages.
Doha - Hosting the finals in a shorter period of time would increase revenues by around 4.4 billion US dollars over four years, FIFA informed the national associations during the "World Summit" on the future of football.
The German Press Agency learned this from participants.

The world association comes to the conclusion that 3.5 billion US dollars could be distributed in the first four-year cycle for the development of football.
For the member associations (211 in total) the increase in revenue means an additional payment of 16 million US dollars.
The future game calendar from 2024 has been a big controversy in world football for months.
The European Football Union UEFA and the South American Confederation CONMEBOL are against the more frequent hosting of the World Cup.
UEFA recently presented a study according to which revenues for the national associations would decrease.
