Saying goodbye is the name of one of the greats of volunteer work: Wilhelm Frömel will be buried on December 23, 2 p.m., in the Echinger Südfriedhof.

Eching

- One day before Christmas Eve 2021, family, relatives, friends and long-standing club colleagues at TSV Eching have to say goodbye to Wilhelm "Willi" Frömel.

Suddenly and unexpectedly, on December 17th, life came to a peaceful end.

He was 87 years old.

His wife, son and daughter-in-law as well as his beloved grandson Felix remain in great sadness.

In addition to the family, Frömel's heart was beating above all - for 53 years - for TSV Eching, which he joined in 1968.

Goalscorer with 35 goals this season

Since then, the Echingen football club has been a central part of his life.

In his playing days he earned the top scorer with 35 goals this season.

For "his" TSV he was on the board of directors for 14 years - first as treasurer, then six years as vice chairman and another six years until 1986 as president.

Under his leadership, the first team rose from the B-Class to the Bayernliga, at that time the third highest soccer league - a remarkable sporting development.

The TSV also made a name for itself in the junior segment, at the time it was the largest department in the Freising district.

A major milestone under his aegis

The opponents of the first at the time in the new stadium on Dietersheimer Strasse, which was inaugurated in July 1980, included - among others - the team from 1860 Munich.

The construction of the facility named after the fatally injured third chairman Willi Widhopf, which includes the stadium and practice areas as well as the sports restaurant and tennis court, is still one of the greatest milestones in the club's history.

The ambitious project of a sports center was initiated by Frömel and was able to bring it to a successful conclusion against various adversities and problems, also thanks to the support of the former mayor Joachim Enßlin († April 2021).

The TSV knew and knows what he had in Willi Frömel: For his extraordinary and long-term commitment he received - little by little - all the awards that the club can give: the silver and gold badge of honor, honorary membership and, as the highest distinction, honorary presidency.

According to the TSV obituary, he “shaped the club like no other” for over half a century.

In 2012 Frömel received the Citizen's Medal for his “outstanding services to the community”.

Five years ago this was followed by a high award from the DFB and BFV for his "lifetime achievement in honorary office".

Craftsmanship

The Frömel family originally came from the Sudetenland with their five children.

During the war, she had to flee from the east, full of privation, and settled in the Upper Palatinate.

There Willi Frömel successfully completed an apprenticeship as an agricultural machinery mechanic with the journeyman's examination from 1948 to 1952.

Because of his job, he moved to Upper Bavaria.

With a lot of diligence and ambition he worked on his professional advancement, passed the master craftsman's examination in 1966 and remained loyal to this branch.

He always remained connected to "his" TSV

Together with his wife Anna, with whom he tied the knot in 1962, Frömel realized the dream of owning a home with a lot of personal contribution in Eching.

"Dahoam", that is what the couple still call their own house on Hufeisenstrasse.

In the neighborhood as well as at TSV, Willis' hands-on, practical manner and his technical and manual skills were valued.

Even after retiring from the TSV management team, he remained closely associated with his sports club.

He founded a development association and always maintained close contacts with athletes and officials.

The TSV also has one last good deed posthumously: As can be read in his family's obituary notice, the deceased would like a donation for the TSV's youth department instead of wreaths or flowers.
