Oberstdorf, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Innsbruck, Bischofshofen: the Four Hills Tournament is a highlight for winter sports fans.

Corona dampens the joy, however.

Oberstdorf / Garmisch-Partenkirchen - For many sports fans it is one of the absolute highlights in winter: the Four Hills Tournament.

But the current Corona situation is putting a spell on the ski jumping event's view for the second time in a row.

As in the previous winter, the competition must take place completely in front of empty stands.

Four Hills Tournament 2021: Again no spectators allowed - "ghost jumping"

For the jumping in Oberstdorf (December 29th) and Garmisch-Partenkirchen (January 1st) it was already known that due to the Corona rules in Bavaria they would have to take place without a spectator.

As the Austrian Ski Association announced on Thursday (December 23rd), the competitions in Innsbruck on January 4th and Bischofshofen on January 6th have to be “ghost jumping”.

The reason for this is the spread of the new Omikron variant.

"We regret this decision for the fans and active people, but want to support the government in their efforts as best as possible," wrote the organizers.

Also this year, at the Four Hills Tournament, a maximum of cardboard displays will be seen in the stands.

No spectators at the Four Hills Tournament - other events in Austria affected

A bitter turn for the fans.

Initially, 4000 (Innsbruck) and 3500 (Bischofshofen) spectators were planned.

But the Four Hills Tournament is not the only winter sports event that is affected by the new requirements in Austria.

Other alpine skiing and snowboarding competitions that take place in Flachau, Zauchensee, Bad Gastein and on the Simonhöhe are also affected.

They were "confident that all other World Cup events in Austria can also be held as sports and media events as planned," it said.
