Canadian player Milos Raonic withdrew from the Australian Open.

Reuters quoted tournament organizers as saying that Raonic withdrew from the first Grand Slam of next year because he had not fully recovered from a heel injury.

The former world number three Raonic had a thigh injury last March and returned to the championships after an absence of three months, but his career in the 2021 season ended early due to another problem in the heel after losing in the first round at the Atlanta Open last July.

Thus, Raonic, who is ranked 70th in the world, joins the list of absentees from the Australian Open due to injury, which includes Roger Federer, Stanislas Wawrinka, Jennifer Brady, Karolina Pliskova, Karolina Mukhova, Serena Williams and Bianca Andreescu.
