Completed Double: Maccabi Haifa Israeli Champion in Short Pool Swimming | Israel today

After being crowned champion in the long pools last summer, for the first time in 31 years, the evening also won the short distances • Gal Cohen Gromi who won three gold medals with three Israeli records and Daria Golobti who scooped five gold medals with six age records were crowned as the championship winners • In total the championship yielded four records Israelis and 35 records of ages and youth


The Israel Swimming Championships in short pools closed tonight (Saturday) at the Wingate National Pool with Maccabi Haifa winning the championship.

The Greens were crowned champions in the long pools last summer, for the first time in 31 years, and have now completed a double with the title in the short pools as well. 

Gal Cohen Gromi, who won three gold medals with three Israeli records, and Daria Golovti, who won five gold medals with six age records, were crowned outstanding in the championship.

The championship yielded four Israeli records and 35 records for ages and youth.

Tonight in the closing show, Yoav Romano came very close to another Israeli record in the 800 freestyle.

The 17-year-old swimmer won with 7: 56.84 minutes - only 23 hundredths from Guy Moskowitz's record.

Romano set at least a new youth record with an improvement to a record that belonged to Gal Nevo from 2005, as well as the 17-year-old record signed by Mark Hinawi from 2014.

In the women's, Becky Posdner won this event with 8: 44.71 min.

Daria Golovti scooped two more gold medals in a quarter of an hour, with a victory in the 50 freestyle with an age record of 24.79 seconds, and in the 200 individual medley with 2: 12.00 min.

For the men in the 50 free, there was a real drama, when Marcus Schlesinger won with 22.12 seconds - only one hundred before Ziv Klontrov and 4 hundred before the young Martin Kartabi.

In the 200 individual medley, Daniel Eichel won with a result of 1: 58.61 min.

In the 100 backstroke, Mercy Ann Najira won with 1: 01.89 minutes and David Grechik with 52.76 seconds, while Inbar Danziger broke the 17-year-old record with 53.31 seconds.

For dessert, in the 4x50m mixed relay for women, Hapoel Bat Yam won with a new age record of 16 - 1: 56.72 min.

In the men's, the Hapoel Dolphin Netanya quartet won, just before Maccabi Haifa.

Netanya is also the one that was crowned the youth champion in the general team ranking and the girls 'ranking, while Bat Yam were crowned in the boys' rankings, and also won the title of champions in the general women's ranking for the seniors.
